Sunset Beach Resort & Spa - past and future brides, please post here!

Recommended Posts

For past Sunset brides, if you brought your own music, did you rent the pa system?  Or was the music and your voices loud enough to carry the sound to your audience?  I'm having a small wedding but I just don't know how the setup is going to be.

For the AHR, I wanted to do a backyard bbq but my FI wanted something inside, so we are doing a tropical themed reception/party at a hotel but I'm going to keep that number low too.  Working with Kathy is okay....I don't see eye to eye with her all the time so we speak now and then, but generally she is a calming voice to talk to sometimes.

Tanesha and Olivene have been okay, there was alot of drama related to my date but it has been worked out now.  Have you had trouble getting things done for you for free like they were for the brides from the past?  Like I was going to bring my own sashes to have them placed, but now they are saying that there is a fee for that too.  I almost booked a flight down there earlier this month to make sure everything was okay but the resort is trying to accomodate me.  Is the resort going to discount some items for you since your bringing a large number? Are you using a outside florist?  I'm going to use Jan's, they have been very quick at responding and their prices are cheaper than the other florists I have talked to including the resort.

Whew, 75, and its only March!! ( I know its crazy)   Do you have the BM dress in mind yet? (Yes I have bridesmaid dresses in mind. I'm allowing the girls to choose there own style. I am going to place the order this week.)  I ordered my bm dresses on this past Thursday, I used one of the etsy sellers to make wrap dresses. (That was my initial thought was to have the girls were wrap dresses but they were expensive.)

For the AHR, I wanted to do a backyard bbq but my FI wanted something inside, so we are doing a tropical themed reception/party at a hotel but I'm going to keep that number low too.( We are having a backyard bbg as well with the tropical theme.)  Working with Kathy is okay....I don't see eye to eye with her all the time so we speak now and then, but generally she is a calming voice to talk to sometimes. ( lol lol same here we done see eye to eye on certain things as well)

That's crazy a fee, I refuse to pay a fee)I almost booked a flight down there earlier this month to make sure everything was okay but the resort is trying to accomodate me.  Is the resort going to discount some items for you since your bringing a large number? (I don't know yet I haven't really discussed that with them yet, I would hope so) Are you using an outside florist? (No I'm not using an outside florist. I'm trying to avoid that $250 vendor fee. I'm using real touch flowers for my bridal party. It was so much cheaper. For the ceremony and the reception ill use the resort) I'm going to use Jan's, they have been very quick at responding and their prices are cheaper than the other florists I have talked to including the resort. (What are you doing for your centerpiece I'm still waiting on Olivene to give me a price for centerpieces.)

Are you doing a welcome dinner?

When are you arriving?

Are you having a private reception?

Your right about the sashes....I didn't even think about sending someone down to place them.  I think I will do this instead.

(What are you doing for your centerpiece I'm still waiting on Olivene to give me a price for centerpieces.)  I'm going to let Jan's do the centerpieces.  A low floral arrangement with tealights. I think I'm going to add some seashells to the table though.

Are you doing a welcome dinner?   No, I decided to just do a dinner with my bridal party and then have a welcome cocktail hour with the rest of the guests in a free area.

When are you arriving?  August 2nd.

Are you having a private reception?   Yes, we are going to use the sundowner terrace.

Jan's is charging $40 for the centerpieces.  I tried Grande Garden because they are local to MB but they never returned my emails.  Even with the vendor fee, Jan's was cheaper including delivery and setup.  I compared Tai Floral, Jan's, the resort, and an independent planner.

Hi mrl, I hope you had a wonderful Easter...How's the planning coming along? Did you end up chosing Jan's flowers.  The resort is charging me and arm and a leg for flowers. I just sent Jan a quote request for flowers.

Are you doing the a la carte menu or the buffet?

By the way did you get a contract from Olivene yet?

Happy Easter to you too!

The planning has slowed down alot.  Trying to get my Groom and son all jazzed up. I can't think of anything else that I need to do but wait for my other RSVPs to finish booking or cancel so that I can update my count. I have been planning for 30 and that is how much I have ordered for OOT bags and such.  So I'm just twiddling my thumbs for now until I get a final count. I am driving my BMs crazy asking them if there is anything that they need me to do, lol.

Oh yes, trust me, I know all about those resort flower prices.  I don't know who they get their flowers from to charge sooooo much!  I'm going to do the a la carte menu. Yes, I got a contract but I don't think anything is in stone just yet.  I just hope they don't try to boot me again before its finalized (can they do that?).

What are you doing about music?  $700 for a DJ sounds crazy!

You have alot of people coming, so I can totally understand paying the DJ fee.  Since its not many of us, a ipod reception it will be for me. I will PM you about what happened with the resort.  I am buying my OOT stuff now.  The usual medicine stuff, a fun kit (I just got some stadium cups made), and I'm going to do an old school candy kit (chico sticks, fireballs, lemonheads, baked beans).  You?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
