Travel Agent Woes!!!!

I had originally went with a travel agent from destinationweddings.com and am not happy with his services at all. Not helpful, trying to push certain resorts on me even though I specified that I didn't want a mega resort/not so nice beach. Ladies save yourself 50 bucks and do NOT go with them.

Thanks Erica!!! It's been a pleasure working with you and your guests!

I am so glad I am not the only one with TA problems!!!!!

I only found this site after we booked everything :(

My travel agent was great at the beggining, I asked for different dates a lot. To try and find the cheapest price.

But in the end did not get cheap at all! It is over $1800pp

I had emailed the hotel asking if they do anything special for birthdays as we will have 3 people celebrating birthdays while we are there. They advised me that my mom was not on their bookings. So with back and forth emails, they told me to contact my travel agent.

She assured me that my parents were on her list and "the suppliers" list.

The hotel got back to me the same day saying that the supplier contacted them and she was not on the list.

My travel agent however did not get back to me for a week to tell me they were now on the list.

So what would have happened if I did not enquire about birthdays??? Show up and say sorry your not on the list! To my parents of all people!

Secondly we had selected seating with our package. So she emailed me and asked if she was to use the credit card on file to book our 2 childrens seats....... We all put our deposit down at the same time. So I do not understand why we would have to pay for our children to sit beside us on the plane! I was so pissed.

I signed them up for the kids club with Air transat, and on there I read that they get FREE seat selection!

I ended up calling air transat, and got everything figured out in 5 minutes! all for FREE

When I emailed and told her I booked their seats, she was like Phew I'm glad you got that figured out, I was hoping they would't charge you for your kids! WHATEVER such a lier.

She is the TA and she is the one that should be telling me about this stuff, not me calling to find out for myself.

They are just quick to charge everything!

UGH sorry she just makes me so mad!

I just want this to be over already!

24 more days..........................

Thanks for letting me vent :)

I am in the same situation... My TA is very, very, likable and she is well known in our area. I don't have any experience in travelling so I thought have someone local & nice would be great. WRONG! She is a scatterbrain & I do half of her job for her. She never checks in with me, my guests have sat in the parking lot for hours waiting for her to return for lunch, twice I had to speak to her about returning my guests calls/emails so they could book. Some of my guests got so fed up that they went with another TA (making me lose "perks" with the tour operator).  The other day I was informed she didnt return an email to book 10 people! I was fuming but as it happens the original email was deleted from my guests computer & she said without that there's nothing we can do.  Im so freakin POed but my guests have already booked & I'm committed but I will be writing a letter once all this is over...

Hope you ladies have better experiences :)

Good Morning SammyAnna - I'm so sorry to hear you're having these difficulties. One suggestion I can offer is ask her to copy you each time she responds to a guest via email. We do this with our brides and it keeps them in the loop as to who is contacting us and booking. Good Luck! TA Patty

I really can't stress how important it is to use a destination wedding specialist.  There are so many more facets to destination weddings than regular individual travel.  I know some very experienced agents that won't do destination weddings because of the extra work involved.

Have you tried one of the BDW Travel Agents We Specialize in Destination weddings.  TA Patty above is a Dominican Republic Expert.

You can contact us:  Contact a Destination Wedding Specialist HERE and I will direct you to the best agent that fits your needs.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
