Who is the Best Photographer in the Cancun/Riviera Maya Area? PLEASE HELP!

We were married last February in Cozumel and had M&J Photography capture our special day of memories.

Our advise to anyone looking for a wedding photographer is this...research well, look at their portfolios, talk to them well in advance of your day, and do not cheap out because you will never get those moments back when the day is over. The saying is true, you get what you pay for.  In our case we found them by researching on line, made contact and had several conversations with them (they also skyped with us) and were nicely surprised by their price. We were immediately set at ease as they are two very wonderful people who are easy to talk to, understand what you are going through, very professional, and who each have an amazing portfolio and background. When the day of the wedding comes around there is a level of comfort knowing you are in good hands because of previous conversations with them and knowing what to expect. This is important because it helps you to relax and enjoy your day, which we were able to.

Michael and Jennifer are married and live on the Island so hiring them gives you the added bonus of having two photographers on your wedding day, and in our case, they knew the photographic top spots of the island. They are also a wealth of information so ask away and if they don't know, they'll help you find the answer.

Their photos are distinct, imaginative, some are bold with amazing colour contrasts, while others capture quiet moments. M&J are highly creative and have an eye for those shots that set them apart from other photographers. They also captured some moments when shadowing us that we didn't even realize were being taken because they were discrete and respectful of those private precious moments. Some of those photos now mean the most to us.

We also had a TTD session with them at Punta Sur, one breathtaking beach... and what a morning (after the wedding) of fun and laughter! Those photos were amazing, unique, beautiful and we lov them all!  We are challenged to say we have a favorite photo as they are all our favorites!

So the Best Photographer? For us it is Michael and Jennifer Lewis, M&J Photography, and we hope for you too.

We booked M&J Photography (Michael and Jennifer Lewis) and strongly recommend them. You won't go wrong with this choice. They are reliable and creative, very professional, and they are quick at delivering their work. They will help you find the right place for the photo shoots and will respond to any questions you may have in time and with detail. They are definitely great photographers.

We have booked M&J Photography and are very excited to work with Jennifer and Michael Lewis.  We had a chance to check out samples of their work and really liked what we saw and they fit nicely into our budget with an extra bonus of TTD session which was included.  Having the advantage of two photographers each with their own style will bring a unique variety to our finished album.  Jennifer and Michael are both very professional, laid-back and extremely helpful.  We had wanted our wedding date to be Dec 12, 2012 but unfortunately we were unable to have that happen through our booking agent.  My fiance took a chance and sent Jennifer an email asking if she might know someone who could perform a wedding ceremony on Dec 12th.  Jennifer was kind enough to send out several emails to people she knew and we found someone who could secure our Dec 12th date.  This would not have happened without Jennifer's help.  Her willingness to help out with something that was totally outside their niche was greatly appreciated.

My fiance and I are VERY HAPPY with our decision and are looking forward to our pictures.  I would HIGHLY recommend M&J Photography.

Hi Ladies,  I wanted to post my review on William Sanchez on this thread just in case any of you are considering him. Also Congratulations to all of you and enjoy all the planning. I was married in GPR on 5/5/2012 and it was truly an amazing day!

I was married the Gran Porto Real in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on 5/5/2012. My husband and I hired William Sanchez to photograph our big day and I very much regret our decision to hire him. After the wedding and receiving his full payment he stopped replying to ALL of our emails and pretty much disappeared. Fast forward 3 months after the wedding William had not even sent us a slideshow with highlights.

Originally my husband and I wanted to hire Ivan Luckie but unfortunately he was booked so he actually recommended William Sanchez to us. Since this was the case we reached out to Ivan for help. Once Ivan followed up with him William sent us a slideshow with highlights from our wedding that HE chose. He didn't even bother to check with us which pictures we wanted to include in our own highlights and didn't mention anything is his email as to why he ignored our emails and phone calls for 3 months. Anyways at this point we were just happy to hear from him and that he wasn't stealing our money. In his email 2 months ago when he sent us our highlights he also promised to send us the downloadable links and the rest of our pictures shortly. We NEVER heard from him again. It's been 5 MONTHS since we married and I still do not have my pictures. Ivan Luckie is trying to help us reach him again but apparently William is in Argentina now and unreachable - how convenient for him. I have no idea what do at this point or if I can take legal action against him.

I would like to warn you all. DO NOT HIRE WILLIAM SANCHEZ. He has ruined such special memories for my husband and I. Who knows if we will EVER see our pictures. I will post a follow up soon but please stay away.

Also I would like to note that our contract stated that pictures would take up to 70 days - Well he is 80 days late with no explanation.

So just an update I finally go my pictures after 5 months! According to William he had sent them 4 months after our wedding but we never got them because he was in Argentina and he had a bad internet connection, however he still decided to send our pictures in an email using the horrible internet connection (very responsible). The logical thing would have been to follow up with us via phone knowing he had a bad connection but instead he continued following up via emails that we never received because of the horrible connection that he was AWARE of. It really doesn't make much sense to me!! In my point of view, if your selling a service your main job is to make sure your service/finished product is delivered to the client. If it does not make it to the client you have not done your job and the client will not care to hear excuses! We are not mind readers, we rely on communication.

Anyways I can go on and on but I rather just put this behind me now and move on. Overall the photography experience was a negative one for my husband and I. We hope that in the future William will learn how to manage his business better and value his existing customers as much as his new ones because today in age this kind of information travels fast.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
