Hey girls!  I'm also doing my own make-up and the only thing that I've decided on so far is the mascara....I'm OBSESSED with Diorshow!!!!  It really does make your lashes look fake they're so big!  Definitely try it out and thanks for all the other great recommendations! :)

I went to sephora and the girl swore up and down that Smashbox Photofinish light oilfree was the best primer...and I swear it is too! I was hoping to save it for the wedding but already have to go back and get another ( I originally bought the travel size since I wasn't sure if I'd like it)!! Also, I have oily skin and was weary about using a moisturizer in Mexico but she showed me the Peter Thomas Roth Clini-matte All day Oil control with SPF 20...it's a moisturizer that wisks away any oil every hour ( I know it sounds a little "weird science") and it actually works! I love it and it makes your skin feel so smooth and if you use the smashbox primer right after I swear it really makes the difference!!!  I also love the Diorshow Blackout and got it in waterproof! For eye makeup I'm using Bobbi Brown in Velvet Plum, Fawn and Navajo...they are all slightly shimmery but NOT glittery...and if you want a smokey eye but not too heavy it's perfect for a beach wedding since they'e more in the bronze family! Hope that might help!!!

Thanks for the advice on the primer. I have used MAC products for several years and can't seem to shake to oily skin. I will definately try those out. I find two faced eye primer works really well.

Thanks for sharing. I love smahbox and their primers. I always thought that the regular photofinish was oil-free but now I know that is wrong. I am going to check out your other suggestions as well. Do you have any pics of your make-up?

Here are some shots that might show my makeup best( had to put a dress shot in there too, haha!!)...I did a very minimal look mostly focusing on my eye makeup. I used Bobbi Brown eyeshadows in Velvet Plum, Fawn and Navajo( I love love love Bobbi Brown shadows..they never creased and stayed in place all day!)...they had a great shimmer that doesn't make you look like a disco ball, especially when you are outside in the daylight! I also used an Almay eyeliner duo in soft black and champagne,  Ardell false eyelashes and DiorShow in Blackout waterproof....I also just used my everyday concealer and bronzer...nothing special so I wish I had used a better undereye concealer- it was an overcast day so the lighting made my undereyes appear darker then they actually were...thank goodness it was only in some of the photogs shots though...but keep that in mind!! :) The two primers  I used really helped it all go on smoothly and stay on through the night!! Hope this helps! I promise once I have more time I will right up my full review with lots of pics! :)

Hope these pics help! The primers really made a difference!! They made all my makeup go on so smoothly and really made it last!!! I swear by Bobbi Brown shadows!! They never once creased up or smudged- I used Velvet Plum, Fawn and Navajo and they were perfect for an outdoor ceremony in the daylight, they had just enough shimmer without looking like a disco ball! I had tried a bunch of grey smokey tones at Sephora but they looked too harsh for daytime so I am so happy I went with the Velvet Plum( it's more of a bronze with a hint a purple) and it gave much more of a romantic beachy look! I also used Almay duo eyeliner in soft black and champagne , Ardell false eyelashes and DiorShow waterproof in Blackout. My bronzer and blush was Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess- I've used it for years now and so appropriate for a beach wedding! :) The only thing I wish i had done differently was to have found an under eye concealer that was a little heavier- I just used my everyday one but in certain photos I can see that the light ( it was an overcast day so there was a glare) made my undereyes appear darker than they actually were!  My overall look was very minimal but with most focus on my eyes, I kept it very simple!  Hope this helps!! Once I find more time I will write my full review with tons of pics!!! :)

Just a word of advice regarding foundation....this is really really important if you will be using flash photography at all...

Do NOT use mineral makeup for flash photography....it looks beautiful in person, but when the flash hits your face the light will bouce back into the camera and your face will have a "white cast"....This is because most mineral makeup contain titanium dioxide and other light-reflecting minerals.

On that note...try your best to avoid any foundation that contains a mineral sunscreen (titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide) as this will result in the same problems in flash photography.

Also be careful with your face moisturizers or any sunscreens you wear on your face with a high spf.  I know we all want to protect ourselves ESPECIALLY because were getting married in the tropical heat...but you dont want to sacrifice your photos either!

I highly recomend the makeup forever HD (for dry to normal skin) or makeup forever matte velvet foundations for photography....and

ALWAYS use a primer...primer for everything...face primer and eyelid primer!  Smashbox photofinish is a good choice for the face!  they have a small travel sized option (which is actually a good size) at sephora for like $10-15 if you dont plan on using it past your wedding day!

Too Faced or Urban Decay make great eye makeup primers.

I definatly reccomend buying your makeup at Sephora and testing out your makeup in different lighting and using flash at home.  Sephora has a great return policy if something doesnt work out for you.

Good luck and congrats!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
