I'm doing my own wedding day makeup....

I'm not sure I can recommend a brand specifically because I had my make up done at the resort, but I will definately +1 the use of a primer. It's SO HOT down there, your make up will just slide off if you don't have a good base.

As for colour, I think the classic neutrals will be timeless and hold up 10-15 years down the line when you are looking at your album.

While doing your own hair/make-up is comforting (because you know youre not going to make yourself look terrible) there is a flip side to this.  Me, being a professional hair and makeup artist in Cancun I would never think of doing my own hair and makeup for my wedding day just as I would never bake my own cake (and Im pretty good if I do say so myself)  for the wedding.  No matter how many different products you buy, your application will probably be the same as always...and dont you want to look "special" not different just a better you?  Its important you find the right person who you feel at ease expressing your ideas, worries and expectations so that all you have to do is relax and look beautiful. You deserve it.

MVPHairMakeup - I agree with you 100%.  Only thing is...I live in Nebraska and our wedding is in San Diego in March.  I won't be able to have a trial run with anyone before the wedding day itself.  My friend (Matron of Honor) will also be there.  I am also a licensed cosmetologist and so is she.  So if there is any problems, I always have her to fall back on for help.  Plus I'm very particular in my look and if someone does one thing wrong I'm gonna freak :D haha.  Us ladies and being perfectionists!!

I am doing my own make-up too, and most likely my hair. Considering it's a beach wedding, I'm not so fussed about getting everything done professionally.

I have oily skin too like many of you ladies have said, and I generally use BareMinerals by Bare Escentuals. I've been using it for years and love it! You can go to the Bare Escentuals store (if you have one in your area) and they will do a free trial for you to test out the products. They also sell it at Sephora if there is no Bare Escentuals store in your area. I know someone who used it for her wedding and she said it stayed on well for the whole event; she also said that this was the make-up artist's choice, not hers. Additionally, she said that the make-up artist wet a Q-tip, dipped it in the foundation wet it, and used it as a concealer. I've actually tried this and it works well enough. The only catch is that I don't remember if her wedding was on a beach in a tropical/hot setting. But I usually wear BareMinerals in the summer (since it's so lightweight and practically the only foundation I can stand) and it wears pretty well. I also find that their eyeshadows LAST for the 8 to 10 hours or so I'm out and about. I recently tested it out with a base primer I have and compared it with my professional make-up trial. I found that it provided the same coverage as the professional trial without feeling as thick. So with primer and setting spray, I'll probably use the BareMinerals line for the foundation and the eyeshadow. I will be testing it out again in the summer and see how it holds up in the humidity. Then I can make adjustments for the wedding. bride.gif

Hi girls

I just got back from my wedding in Cuba and I have to rave about the make up that I used.  I girl I know works for Face atelier http://www.faceatelier.com/face/ca/web.nsf/fmPublic!OpenForm&sec it is used on many celebrities as well as Madonna's stage dancers without needing to be touched up.

The foundation is a silicone base so it will not come off in the water or when sweating.  Trust me I put this make up to the test and it stayed put even when doing our TTD.  I love the waterproof mascara as well as the Translucent powder for shiny spots.  I was just going to Sephora to get what I could until I found this product line and I am sooo grateful that I did.

So much info on this thread! I am getting my makeup & hair done at the resort. Previous brides have posted pics and had no complaints about the makeup but I wanted to post a site here if anyone wanted to check it out. I love this site & its so helpful from comparing products to applying a certain look. It really has everything.

I have really oily skin and don't want to look like an oil slick on my wedding day...I keep hearing about the MUFE primers and foundation..Any other suggestions? Also considering going for a consultation at MAC, does anyone know how much that will cost? Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
