Post your SHORT wedding/reception dress!

Recommended Posts

Very nice! And congrats on getting your dress.

I think I am going to continue to show FI pics online, then, when I go shopping, take copies of styles we both like as a starting point. I have also decided to narrow my searches to short or tea-length dresses, because I really do want to look nice for him. But I will still try on a longer style, just so I can say I did.

Everything else with the wedding planning so far (granted, it is a way away, but most decisions are done) I have been able to just decide. But I feel a little pressured about the dress. Everyone has an idea of what I SHOULD wear. I am the first one in mine or FIs family to get married, and everyone wants to come along with me. I really do not want to waste anyone's time.... including mine.... having to organize several get-together days. (because of the travel time, it will be whole-day events). So I just want to have my search focused and organized that day. And I know that if I do not start out preferring a short dress, my mom and bm won't even support me trying one on. (FI's mom and my moh are all for short, coincidentally).

Anyway, this thread has helped a lot in showing me gorgeous pictures of dresses... I know that I can still feel 'bridal' and wear a short style!

And that's because, he's going to love you in whatever you wear on that day. Just like, you will him. My FI who had planned on getting a bespoke suit made, changed his mind and has decided to wear a kilt instead. Sure, I'd prefer him in a suit but it's his wedding day too and he should give a nod to being Scottish if he wants to.

Because I live in another country and am not surrounded around my super close gf or family, so I went shopping on my own first. Made three appts in one day and got a feel for what looked good on me. Initially I wanted a full lace, backless gown with a mermaid-like flair. On my own, I found out that that look didn't really suit me. Found a couple I 'kinda liked' and resumed my online search. I found two more labels I liked, found the shops that sold them - which, sadly, are in two completely different parts of London - and tried on some more dresses. It wasn't until had three styles I really, really liked before I had two friends come with me. I totally understand not wanting to make people spend there days helping you find a dress. In the end, I took my two friends to lunch inbetween the massive travels to see the dresses. And in the end, I chose one of them that day.

I wasn't looking for a short dress at all Peach, so when I came out of the fitting room in one both of my bridesmaids wrinkled their noses and said I just didn't look like a bride in it. But when I went home that night I couldn't stop thinking about that dress. I felt beatiful in it and that's how I knew it was the one. When we went back to try it the second time they could see the difference in my face and then they understood that I felt special in this dress. Tell your Mom and bm that you want to try lots of styles on to see what you feel most comfortable in. They will know by the smile on your face when you're in the right dress, don't feel pressured to make them happy with your choice, you only get one dress, make sure it's the one YOU love. You always look your best when you feel beautiful. There were other dresses I tried that probably made me look taller/thinner/curvier, whatever, but the one I choose made me feel like a million bucks.

This is a great thread! i hadnt thought about 2 dresses until my fiance announced he planned to change from a dark suit (for catholic ceremony, legal ceremony on beach and photos) into a light suit for the reception to be more comfortable

Previously id been thinking there was no way i could manage a big heavy dress in the cancun heat...but now im thinking (if budget allows), if he can change maybe so can i! So i can have this big heavy dress that i love...and then something lighter for dancing etc! So many great ideas and beautiful dresses, thanks ladies!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
