2012 Indian Bride

Hi everyone,

Me and my fiance got engaged in August and have come to the conclusion that we will have our dream Indian (Sikh) destination wedding! We were thinking somewhere in Mexico, but are still open to other places. We are aiming for Feb 2012. We are antipating ~100-150 guests. If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or better yet is planning or had an Indian destination wedding, please let me know. I am excited but still quite nervous, as this is the first forum i have ever joined.

Thanks :)

Hey Kjanda,

Congrats! Where are you from? I am an Indian bride planning a Hindu/Catholic destination wedding. We are aiming for Feb or Apr 2012. So far I've found that Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica will have the best facilities and will be most cost-effective for a group of that size.

We are also expecting 120-150 guests. We haven't settled on a resort yet but are leaning towards the DR. One of the issues I've found is holding private events with such a large group is that the resorts charge an obscene amount per person for anything beyond the package. For example, having a private open bar can cost $25 per person, per hour. Yikes! I'm still researching all of this so if I find a good solution, I'll let you know.

Keep in touch!

Nisha

thank you all for your kind welcome to the site

Nisha, I am from Vancouver, BC. Congrats to you as well!

I know exactly what you mean about the private function thing. I thought destination would be the way to go in order to save some money, but it seems to be getting more costly as I do more research. I am leaning towards Mexico. There a couple of resorts that i started to look into, but I think I need to do more research. I will definately keep you updated with my findings. I am so excited that i found another indian bride, whos getting married around the same time! We can totally help eachother out! :)

I think should have more information by the weekend. Talk to you soon!

Welcome! I just photographed 2 Indian destination weddings in the last 2 months and they are really sweet.

My suggestion would be for you to bring everything you need for the ceremonies as in most cases you will not  find it at those locations since Indian weddings are not that common down south.

  Happy Planning!!!

Hey kjanda

I found out that some Excellence Resorts in Mexico actually have an Indian a la carte restaurant called Basmati. So if it's important for your guests to have Indian food this is a great option. Unfortunately, it's an adults-only resort. We need to have kids so we can't have ours there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
