@Kim,  I shipped down a total of 3.  2 were boxes of towels and 1 was all the rest of the welcome bag stuff.  I did end up packing some stuff in my suitcase, but that was more because some stuff wasn't ready until the weekend before we left (my laziness...ha!).

Another piece of advice...I also carried my dress on (im sure most brides do), and I just waited until I got to the airport and was at the gate and asked if I could put my dress into the closet (if they have one), but they always let me and my fiance pre board!  So then we were able to have our bags and my dress right by us on the flight.  Made me feel better.  The first leg of my flight down there didn't have a closet, but I just put it on top of the luggage in the overhead bins.  The second one had a closet, so that worked out.

I took down a portable steamer with me, so I wasn't so concerned about it getting wrinkly.

I'm so jealous to not be planning a wedding now.....DSC_3246.JPG

That's excellent news about getting your dress on the plane! I've been wondering how that might work. You didn't happen to fly Delta did you? You looked gorgeous, btw- love that dress!

Hi ladies,

I am also planning a 2012 wedding in St. Thomas. I have not made any down payments yet but have done research. We are planning our wedding at the Whyndam. Have either of you heard anything about that location. We are just in the beginning stages of planning. We are aiming for 2010 on the St. John terrace followed by the reception at Havana blue. How has Havana blue planners been? How is pricing? I would love information on the photographer you previously mentioned in a post. I have been to St. Thomas a couple of times and we fell in love with the location. I am just feeling overwhelmed on planning and don't really know where to begin or what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Heather

Hi Everyone. ....I am also a St. Thomas Marriott bride!  Our wedding date is May 20, 2012 and we are soooooo excited! Although I initially insisted on not having a reception there....I wanted to wait until we returned home. My mother insist on giving us one.  Although the location at the Marriott is wonderful for the wedding, their reception facilities are VERY expensive for not much at all.  Does anyone have any ideas on where we could have a small reception?  We are expecting 25-30 guests.  We want to be close by and not require our guests to pay an arm & leg to get around.....Thanking you in advance......JQ

We're having our reception at Havana Blue... which is a privately owned restaurant right there on site., so your guests wouldn't have to travel if you chose to do it there.  It is a bit pricey, depending on the items you choose for your menu... but so are most nice/upscale restaurants in St. Thomas.  Kate Atwell is the event planner there and she's been amazing so far.  We paid our deposit last week.  We made a customized menu since we wanted to change around a few things from the basic four course menus that are printed in their receptions/ rehearsal dinners packet.

Oh, and I also heard that Old Stone Farmhouse is really good.. I don't think it's very close to the Marriott though.  I've heard good things about Robert's American Grille, also.  They will do a Beach BBQ for you from 28pp and up, depending on the menu that you choose.   I'm sure they do inside things too...

Thanks for the advice Ms.Foxxy. We have considered Havana Blue..very nice but pricey. Although my mother is paying, I still want it to be reasonable. I may consider going to Bolongo Bay for our reception. On my STD/Pre-Invite that I am doing electronically, I am giving my guest thelink as an option to stay there instead of the Marriott if they would like. Hopefully we can work out a deal. Anywho....Thanks again and Happy Planning! JQ

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
