Anyone else feel like it's a rip-off...

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but it seems like almost everyone on here that's selling their post wedding stuff is either trying to break even with what they paid or to make a profit.  I know I've been quoted on here several times higher prices than buying the exact same thing, brand new, online!  It would be nice if we could just look out for each other and pass the stuff along, but I suppose those are pipe dreams...  A lot of people probably come on here and automatically think they're getting a better deal than buying online or in stores.  Be careful and weigh your options.  Remember on here you're buying it used even if the seller claims they never used it.

if a person hasn't used an item (and yes, sometimes stuff DOES go unused), why wouldn't they try to break even on it? especially at the holidays. let's face it, weddings are expensive, and some people really do need to do their best to recoup some of their costs. for example, girls who buy several dresses before settling on "the one" ... they now need some of that money back to pay for other wedding expenses.

you should always weigh your options ... that goes without saying. if you can get an item cheaper elsewhere, by all means, DO SO. maybe the sellers you encountered didn't shop around themselves, and that's why they are now stuck with overpriced stuff. however, i don't think you should make a blanket statement that everyone on here is out to make a buck ... i know of MANY instances where brides have passed along their items for free, or lent items, simply out of the goodness of their hearts.

maybe the issue is that you are still so new to the forum ... give it a chance, and don't get discouraged by your perceived image of just a few posters. lots of amazing girls here!

I certainly did not say everyone on here does that, just that it seems most people do.  I get recouping some of the money, but for me if it's the same price on here as it would be to by direct from the store I don't see why anyone would get it on here when the store offers returns, ect.  I definately wasn't trying to knock anyone for buying/selling on here I think it's a great idea, and I do get LOTS of ideas from what's being sold.  I would just think people would be more generous when selling their used items instead of trying to get out what they paid for it.  More me just venting...

I get what you are saying, like it does not make sense business wise, when you can buy something from an online store for the same price and return it. So buy from them, no one says you HAVE to buy from a forum seller. Thier loss for pricing it too high, but also remeber that brides are notriously into negotiating so maybe some people advertise a hight price expecting to have to negotiate. Either way you dont need to buy it from them, so I dont really see the point of a negative whiney thread to complain about it. Simply ignore  and move on to threads that have more interest to you.

And by the way, i gave away all my wedding extras for free, getting a bunch of PM's to haggle over price was not worth a few bucks to me, and I was happier to see them get used by brides who I had the pleasure of getting to know thru the forum. I even shipped to multiple people on my own dime. But I believe in karma, just like some amazing brides who got married before me had either given me things or left things at the resort for me.

Like Katrina mentions.. it is all about circumstances.

I agree with this.

Or you can just buy somewhere else, where possibly have the right of return, or free shipping?

I would just like to reiterate that Tammy herself could not have made it more clear, there is no recourse thru the forum if you buy something from a forum seller. There is no guarantee of the condition, or that you will even get it. Buy at your own risk. So if you donâ€t like the prices, my advice again, is to move on, and get it somewhere else.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
