I also find facebook (if you are signed up) usually has pages for resorts and you can see other people's pictures (which give you a different persective, then just resort page pictures) and also talk with people who have been there.

Is anyone getting married in the Dominican Republic??  I'm looking at the Hard Rock Punta Cana and was wondering if anyone has been there?  I got on the DR Bride thread, but no one that has actually gotten married there has posted any replies! :(   Any advice on other resorts in the DR?  I feel like I've given up looking because I fell in love with this resort, but nothing is booked yet!

Don't give up!!  I have never been to the Dominican so I can't help you there.  Do lots of google searches, I found some weddings at my resort that way.

I'm hoping to be a January 2012 bride but choosing the location is getting stressful.  We're thinking Antigua because we've never been, it looks gorgeous, and we already had a vacation planned there prior to the engagement - so we can check out the island/resort/etc - but I'm becoming obsessed with reading TripAdvisor reviews and they are so extreme!  How can one person love it on the same day some else writes a 17-negative-points review.  Because we do want some family/friend there - including my 8-year-old niece - we've had to look for all-inclusive, kid-friendly. moderly-priced resorts.  Currently, we are thinking/hoping for St. James' and may look at the Verandah and Grand Pineapple.  Our vacation to St. James is scheduled for the end of the month and I'm just hoping/praying that it is beautiful enough.  If these don't work, we may start looking at Mexico or DR.  Oiy!

Haven't really done much else up to this point except design our STD cards.

Anyone working with a travel agent?  Our thinking on this is to plan for a resort that has online package deals.  The resorts mentioned had great prices through our local warehouse stores.

I'm hoping to be a January 2012 bride. At the moment I seem to be stuck on the destination. Prior to the engagement we had a vacation scheduled at the St. James in Antigua for the end of this January. I've done some research on it for the wedding and it seems to fit our needs: all-inclusive, kid-friendly, moderly-priced, nice beach. However, I seem to have become addicted to reading reviews on TripAdvisor - not always a good thing. How can, on the same day, during the same travel time, one person love it and another post a review with 17 negative points? I'm hoping that the St. James proves worthy, otherwise we'll also consider the Veranda and the Grand Pineapple. If not, we'll extend our search to Mexico and DR. Oiy! I'm hoping/praying that the St. James will be lovely because I would like to have a date and move on to other wedding things. Another plus is that there are a lot of online packages available so we won't need a TA. Anyone using one? Pros/cons of it?

Welcome to this forum!  TripAdvisor can be helpful, but at the same time just remember some people are super picky about certain things.  Some people have really high expectations going to a resort while others don't.  Some people like to find anything negative to pick apart.  You can not rely on TripAdvisor only as you might drive yourself crazy going over the negative reviews.  There is never going to be a place where everyone is 100% happy.  I think if you already scheduled a vacation there then you must have thought it would be a great place to go!

We are using a TA for a few reasons (she is a family friend).  Because we are a small group we could have probably not used one but I thought it would be easier on myself knowing that our guests can go to her about any travel questions such as pricing and whatnot.  As well, this way we will all be on the same flights, and she can get us a group discount.  We are also giving people the option of booking their own travel packages as well so they don't feel obligated to use our TA, but then they will not qualify for the group discount.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
