I notice on the website the following which has left me intrigued:

  • 5-9 rooms for 3 nights or 15 room nights = 1 room night + 1 hour private function^
  • 10 - 19 rooms for 3 nights or 30 room nights = 2 room nights + 1 hour cocktail reception^
  • 20-24 rooms for 3 nights or 60 room nights = 4 room nights + 1 two hour private function^
  • 25 rooms for 3 nights or 75 room nights = 7 room nights + unlimited private functions (one hour cocktail + two hour dinner. MAX three hours per day.  Non cumulative)^ + 1 room upgrade for the bride and groom to the next available room category up to Concierge Level.*

I am from the UK (it does say USA Residents but surely the same deal will apply even though were from the UK) and currently have 70 nights booked as a group with the amount of guests staying at the hotel. There will definitely be more coming which will easily exceed the 75 room nights as explained above. Does this mean that my fiance and I will be entitled to the unlimited private functions (and does this include food or do we have to pay extra for that?).

Any clarification would be massively helpful plus anything you discovered along the way (tips, hints and advice) would be gratefully received.

Thank you so much,

Louise xx

Did you book with a travel agent? Get your travel agent to get a contract with Palace resorts - the catch to this is that all the bookings must occur under the contract so people who book "on their own" and not through your travel agent do not count.

Hope this helps!

Hey Guys!

I just returned from the Moon Palace and I will definitely do a longer review in a few days but I have some tips for the next batch of brides

Regarding the Construction at Sunrise:

I think the construction varries from day to day but it looks like they are done the bulk of it in the lobby. There was still one section shut off for construction but you really have to go a ways to find the area so you still get a wow factor when you walk in. I stayed at Nizuc but didn't see anything at Sunrise that would make me not want to stay there so for those who couldn't switch it do not worry.

Onsite Coordinator
My onsite coordinator was Zarray - she was really fantastic and definitely knows what she is doing. We had a few hiccups with her but they always managed to get fixed  and when it came to the important stuff like running around making sure no random people walked any where near our wedding (we were on the beach) or getting transportation to my grandma who can't walk very far she was on it.

We also had a helper coordinator named Karen who was wonderful. One of the wedding coordinator was in an accident and so ours took over her weddings as well so she was running around like crazy and so Karen helped drive us around on the day of our wedding as well as set up our private functions pre-wedding. I would recommend that if you do think you coordinator seems busy that you ask for an assistant.

Music

We went with a playlist that we created and I had a handful of people tell me it was the best music ever. I say, skip the DJ - use your cash somewhere else and make a playlist on itunes. You can set the crossfade so you don't hear any white noise and as well cut the songs so that the flow is just right and annoying intros or song ends do not exsist. And as a fringe benefit I now have 3.5 hours of dancing music for every party I throw!

Spa

I saw this on the forum here but couldn't find where so I thought I would mention - if you are doing your hair and make-up for the big day in the spa using your resort credits (which is what I did) request Alfredo - he was AMAZING! And this is from someone who is a make-up artist and insainely fussy! He cannot do individual lashes though nor does he have any false lashes so you will need to bring your own. But he can put on the regular false lashes very well. I would recommend you going to MAC or a make-up store ahead of time and picking out all your colors and purchasing them - his make up color selection is very latin ( a bit darker) and I like more of a californian look so I was glad I had my colors with me. Alfredos hairstyling is awesome as well - I had him do a fishtail braid for my private function pre-wedding and a fairly difficult up do and he did a great job! Just make sure you bring a photo of what you want done as his English isn't the best

Resort Credits

After reading so many negative reviews on the resort credits I was scared to death about them - it was fine though! They try to get you to sit down with them to go over what you can do with them but since I had already received the email I skipped it and just booked my stuff. It was hard to finish them up but it was awesome to get to do free tours, free hair and make-up and even the romantic dinner. Use them and don't let them talk to you about too much else (ie timeshares)

Videography

I know most people do not add this into their special day - its a bit of a new trend but we hired Carlos Gallardo to do our videography and they were AMAZING! They came to the resort a few days before to meet with us and get an idea of what we wanted and then they did their thing! I could really see their thought process - they even set up "scenes" for us and directed us on what to do. They put mics on us for our vows - and they were very reasonable! We only booked them a couple weeks before we left and I am so happy we did!

Photography

We went with Samuel Luna - he was amazing as well! We looked at his pictures online and they looked really good and we were shocked when we got the quote in, very reasonable. We got a portrait/TTD session with the package we selected and we chose to do a few couples pics and I did boudoir as well - Samuel suggested a Cenote for the backdrop and arranged for our transportation (for free) it was phenomenal. I'm super excited to see the images!) http://samuellunablog.com/

Decor

For the ceremony we went with the Free Collin Cowe collection and it was beautiful but simple. For the reception we went for the metallic sands square table. It was AMAZING!! Definitely go with something collin cowe - I saw the pure collection set up that looked great too. Its about $300.0 per table which is in line with Zuniga's pricing but much better quality! The table linens are very high end material and nice and heavy and everything matches perfectly without you having to do all the work. For the head table we went with Zuniga's chocolate brown table with candles and it matched perfectly.

I think that is all but if you guys have specific questions feel free to ask

I think I was closer to the 30 day mark when they finally contact me!! Are you doing a symbolic ceremony as opposed to a legal ceremony? If so the wedding certificate is a lie - we didn't pay for it - just refuse to. They tried to pull extra charges on us and we just held firm...its a bit of a headache, they will back down eventually. You can mention that you spoke to Miami and asked if there was a charge for this and they said no -- that will work for sure.

Hi ladies,

I had my wedding at moon Palace on 11/11/12. IT WAS PERFECT as promised by many brides before. The wedding planner was Emy, she is great... very organized and on point with all details.

Friday night all the guests met for a Meet & Greet at the Sunrise side at the Swing bar which turned out great (even though there was no music because the sound system was broken)

Saturday night i had a rehearsal at 6:30pm at Bungalbina Gazebo followed by Rehearsal Dinner at the Terrace in front.

Sunday we had the wedding at Tucan Gazebo followed by cocktail hour at the Venedo Terrace and reception until 11pm at the Carabeno terrace.

Monday we ordered a private Catamaran cruise for all guests with bus transporation. We did this through Cancun Catamaran but once we got to the hotel we canceled it and made a reservation through Palace Vacation Planner with Albatros Catamran out of Albatros Marina in Cancun.

Hair + Makeup

Deloris is the BEST (at Nizuc Salon), I did a trial a few days prior to the wedding with her because i have had horrible expereinces with my hair. its very thick and long and curly so its hard to straighten and style but she was patient and calm and took her time to make sure it was perfect.  (I took pics of hairstyles with me)

My makeup was perfect as well. all done by her.

All locations mentioned above were perfect. let me know if you have any specific questions about them.

THE WIND IS STRONG. MY veil flew away during the ceremony. but for the reception it was refreashing

Food

For the rehearsal dinner we had the Mexican Buffet option and it was Delish.

for the wedding we had Cajun and it was really good too so no complaints.

THe superier hordorves for the coctail hour were good to (i was told by the guests)

We used the Lavender Lux collection from Colin Cowie and it looks perfect. We also got the Diamond Package from PSAV and they uplighted the place and the flags we rented from Zuniga.

we also rented a white dance floor which was raised a few inches (i didint know it would be).

The DJ, Hector was amazing. he lived in NY not to long ago and spoke English so he made  all the announcments throughout the reception. we just gave him a timeline.

The day after we arrived we had meetings set up all day. Started with Ocean Photo/Smile Market at 9:00 am then Wedding office at 10:00am with Emy, then PSAV in the wedding office at 11 and 3 pm was the trail.

I took all the favors to the meeting and handed them off. SHe labeled everything.

I also gave her cake topper, cake knifes which were engraved, table numbers and holders and daimond accents for the reception dinner. We also gave her bags to be delivered to all the rooms.

We did a trash the dress shoot with Gonzalo Nunez at a Cenote and beach. It was hard work but amazing all at hte same time. he  was great, very sweet and patient and interesting to talk with. He even took us out to lunch at a great taco place. I really recommend this expereince but again it was hard work trying not to sink in a wedding dress and diving underwater for 3 hours straight.

I pretty much covered everything, ill prob add things as I remember them.

Ask me anything ladies.... im here to help as best as I can.

Love

Maria

Maybe the legal ceremony has charges. We did a symbolic ceremony - perhaps someone on here will be able to let you know :)

HAPPY WEDDING DAY TO SHAN0487!!!

on a sadder note..I have had to cancel my wedding 2 weeks prior to leaving..found out that my fiance was cheating on me. so please look at all my items for sale if anyone is interested. I will say that Daniela has been very responsive in trying to help me get as much of my $$ back for my reception but since we had a "room block" contract, I lost $3,900 for our stay at MP :(

Wishing all the upcoming brides the best time on your wedding days and for the future!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
