An absolute nightmare.  First of all, if you are booked in the Sunrise section- GET IT CHANGED ASAP!!!  This is a damn construction site.. literally.  The lobby was full of drilling, hammers & drywall dust.  Then our room wasn't ready because somebody was still in it.. so we were told it would be a "few hours".  So in the meantime, we were forced to listen to a TIMESHARE SALES PITCH by a pushy salesperson, pressuring us to meet him for breakfast tomorrow morning "for a quick information session".  Um, no thanks.

Then we were put in to a temporary room while we waited for ours, and we had to walk like half a mile THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, complete with all of us getting construction dust in our eyes as we walked like 3 ft away from people drilling into the ground and laying concrete.  Nice.  The hallway of our section of Sunrise is covered in dust, nails, trash, and weird somewhat-skanky guests that look like they were given a free room in lieu of a free timeshare seminar.

Long story short, we raised holy hell to have us and all of our guests moved to Nizuc.  Thank God our families don't get here until tomorrow- I would have been mortified to have them see this.  I can't even describe how horrible it is.  Sitting here crying as I type this post.  This has been horrible.  This "dream wedding" I have been planning for the last 8 months has just crumbled in a matter of minutes.  I have been living & breathing this wedding, ensuring every detail is perfect.. this couldn't be any less perfect if it tried- it's the complete polar opposite.

Oh and we were starving so we went to for dinner at Bugambilia- and I can't convey how horrible it was.  Nasty, gelatinous old food.  I ate chips & salsa, my daughters had fries.  That's it.  I took a bite of one of the desserts and had to spit it out and thought I was going to puke.

I'll give more details later.. just wanted to tell you this in case you are coming here any time soon and are staying at Sunshine.  The guy at the desk told us that our travel agent would have been notified of the construction.. I don't know how true that is, but regardless, I'm pissed.  And sad.  God this is a nightmare.

This sounds awful!  I will be there tomorrow....we have booked the Nizuc.  I'm just wondering how bad the ballroom will be as our reception is supposed to be in the Sunrise building....

I truly hope it gets better for you! Absolutely no one should be booked for a vacation in a construction zone!!

I had a feeling this would be the case....I don't get why they can't just take it off your hotel bill while there at checkout!

Just ONE MORE thing to have to fight with them about!

I'm so sorry you had such a hard first day!

I didn't know know about the construction on the Sunrise side either, until we got there. From what I understand, it's just started pretty recently, and I agree it is extensive!

I would have done just as you did, move everyone over to the Nizuc side. Our entire group was in Nizuc and it was wonderful. My now husband and I were there for 10 days, we never ate breakfast, lunch or dinner on the Sunrise Side, only Nizuc, Grand and the Golf Course. We never hung out at the pools on the Sunrise side. We didn't feel that we were missing out at all. The place is so huge, you can just not go to the Sunrise side and still have a great vacation!

I am not sure about the facilities on the Sunrise Side, such as the ballrooms, given the construction.

When we had our meeting with Daniela, the wedding coordinator, she suggested we move the welcome dinner and farewell breakfast from the Art Terrace (Sunrise Side) to Nizuc, given the construction and the location of our group. We did, and there weren't problems. She let everyone know upon arrival that the dinner location had changed, no one got lost, all was OK!

As far as the food, keep your mind open. Between Nizuc, Grand and the Golf Course, there are a few good and a few great restaurants. We live in Las Vegas and are huge foodies. Really, for the price paid at this resort, overall the food is very good. Maybe you just had a bad experience with that restaurant and since you were upset already with everything else, it carried over for the rest of the day.

There are always going to be things that go wrong that are out of your control. Do what you can to fix them, and make sure you have a good time! I know it can be hard, but you have to let things go a bit or it will consume you the whole time you are there! The first couple of days were so stressful for us as well, but it will get better as you get your bearings and get things figured out.

THIS IS HORRIBLE. I am so you have to go through this during your special time!

I am supposed to stay on the Sunrise side with 50 of my guests in the middle of November... Do you know when the construction is supposed to be completed? did they give you any further information. I know you dont need to think of this but if you cuold please ask so we November brides can try to change if needed. I would really really appreciate it!

To my fellow November ladies,

What side are you staying out and how many people?

My TA had requested the Sunrise side because she said it was newer, but looks like I'll be telling her to contact Funjet to change the request to the Nizuc side!

Chicksmommy, I am so sorry you're going through all this, but I really appreciate you posting about it.  I'm going to contact my coordinator and ask her to move my guests to the Nizuc side.   I'm just hoping they are open to it.

I hope you have a wonderful wedding and this is just a small blip in the grand scheme of things.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
