Hi Ladies,

I am looking into booking my DJ. PSAV or JSAV. Anyone have any comments or recommendations? JSAV is about $200 more expensive for the exact same thing and I am wondering if they are a better choice for any reason.

Also, how far ahead did everyone book their DJ and audio?

I am only doing the Ipod hookup, and since it was $200 cheaper with PSAV, I booked them.  I think I booked in March/April for my November wedding- they don't make you pay until like 30 days before, so they just have you sign the contract in order to "book" it.

Another question for the new brides- did you just use US dollars the whole time you were there or did you transfer your money to pesos?
We just used US dollars the entire time. My suggestion is to bring a bunch in small bills. We tried to tip everyone and it makes a difference. If you are having trouble waiting on drinks, toss a couple $1's on the pool side servers tray, and you will not even have to ask for another drink. American dollars spend just as well in Mexico, probably even better tbh. I think the workers prefer the USD as its exchange rate is always getting better. Word of warning: 1) if you make purchases in Mexico using USD, they are required to provide you will your change in pesos. So bring a lot of smaller bills to avoid acquiring a ton of extra pesos. 2) the ATM machines on the property only give out pesos. We had a bunch of guests who were not able to locate an ATM that dispensed US Dollars. 3) if you get stuck with a bunch of pesos at the end of the week, give them out as tips, or there is a window at the Cancun airport to exchange them. 4) the people at the font desk will sometimes be able to break a $20 bill USD for you if you need it, but don't count on it.

We used PSAV for our wedding. They seemed to be much cheaper than JSAV for some reason. We booked DJ Equipment, LED lighting, and a fog machine. We had our own DJ (one of our guests) but the PSAV guys stuck around the entire time to help hook stuff up, work the lighting, and troubleshoot in case of issues. They were great and very friendly, chatting up our DJ most of the time. We booked them about a month in advance, but you could also wait and do it at your first on-site coordinator meeting I believe.

Yes, same thing with us. I had booked directly with PSAV. I told our wedding planner that I had. She added the PSAV bill to my MP purchase order, and I paid it in full before we ever arrived. No issues with it at all though. The PSAV guys were great, and we got everything we asked for.

Did your dj friend bring music with him or did you go off of what PSAV had?? I'm just curious if I should bring some of our music as well

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
