Moon Palace 2012 Brides

Hey ladies!  I have only posted a couple of times on this thread since haven't done a whole lot of planning yet, but have been following this thread for awhile cheesy.gif

I just wanted to share that while reading some of the OOT threads I saw that a few girls found some really cute bags at Old Navy for $1 each.  I found a 20% coupon online and was able to buy them at 80 cents a piece, such a steal for a reusable modern pool bag! (also it doesn't have the Old Navy logo on it in case you were wondering)

Hi There,

I was debating between the Lake Terrace and the Grand and I ended up picking the Lake because the lay out is great, it is much closer to the Nizuc and Sunset rooms of guests, and there is better lighting. The lighting and proximity to the rooms was a big deal for me since a few members of my family are legally blind and have terrible night blindness...myself included. In terms of the distance, it seems that the Grand is like a 20 minutes walk from Nizuc and this was a deal breaker for me.

Also, I did a lot of research on the decorating of the Grand Terrace and it seems like you have to put a lot more into decorating it (including lots of lights) to get it to not look so much like a "parking lot" (my mother's words)...lol. I really think the structure of the Lake Terrace is amazing and would require very little decorating. Also, there is the hut thing that you can use. I am planning on using it as a bar and lounge area.

Just thought I would share what I discovered about these venues. Sorry I don't have a good pic of the Grand Terrace.

I hope things are much better for you when you get there!

I never did hear from my on-site coordinator so I will be curious how this plays out upon check-in. I know that my on-site coordinator received all the emails that were sent between Joannis and I to confirm everything so maybe thats why she never contacted me, knowing that its all confirmed between the three of us.

Oh well, I have confidence that MP will make my experience great! I'm sure I will be up all night with excitement! Oh and going to the airport with all my luggage should be interesting......that has been the worst part of this all....trying to jam everything into the luggage without overstuffing the luggage. Oh well, we might need help with all the bags and that was just with me bringing the minimum. I'm sure I will post once we get there to show you all how beautiful it is!!

I agree!  The fee is crazy.  However, we're going to see if it makes more sense to use Zuniga instead of buying things and bringing them down there.  I understand that they're prices are reasonable.

Well I love hearing that you can set things up yourself! Before I didn't think that was possible. I don't think it's necessary to charge $100 per table to put chair sashes on and a candle on the table. Highly ridiculous!

Enjoy your bachelorette party!  cheers.gif

Your bags are really cute!  Great idea about the propel and crystal light packs!  I think everyone going will make good use out of those so I'm adding them to my list.

I know I have been a "silent" partner to you all, but know I have been reading and truly appreciate all of the advice and creative ideas shared! I was packing my OOT bags (less than 3 weeks til we leave!) and thought I would share. I know this was one of my favorite things to research during the planning process and thought others may find it helpful. I am a travel agent and have been to the Moon Palace before, so I had an idea of what to expect. We kept the bags and gifts small, bearing in mind that all of our guests would have to bring these items home and may only have carry on size luggage. We thought of the travel mugs and beach towels, but knowing the hotel provides this we couldn't see our guests actually using them. Please don't be offended if this is something you planned on doing, it was just not something that worked for us and I am sure your bags will be beautiful! wink.gif

Below is the contents of the bag. We plan to hand deliver them instead of paying $3 each to the bellman. We created a welcome card that thanks our guests, a wedding timeline, map, and contents of bag. Enjoy!

I got these bags for 1.99 each from Christmas Tree Shop last summer! We are giving one per couple and one per single guest.

These are the contents of the bag:

Suntan lotion and Aloe Vera (bought the travel bottles for $1 for both at the dollar tree, and added suntan lotion and aloe vera for about $.25 each) - these will go in emergency kit once in Mexico

Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs. in an organza bag (about $.50 per bag with candy)

Fruit tootsie rolls also in organza bag ($.50 per bag with candy)

Pretzels (about $.50 each)

Cocoa and cinnamon almonds (about $.50 each)

Tissues (about $.25 each)

Colgate wisps ($1/2 pack from dollar tree)

Fan for the girls, hankerchief for the guys (about $1 each)

Propel and Crystal light drink packets (no lemonade in Mexico)!

Starfish wine bottle stopper (about $2.50 each)

Emergency kit (about $5 for contents)

Emergency kit in detail:

Ear plugs

Safety pins

Bandaids

Alcohol wipes

Wet Ones

Insect repellant wipes

After bite wipes

Shout wipes

Chapstick with spf

Advil

Pepto chewable tablets

This is the starfish bottle stopper:

And lastly, on the dinner tables (we are doing the reception dinner - not private event) we will have jordan almonds with a note attached saying we have a special gift waiting at home for them. We plan to take a picture with each couple or single guest and frame it in this beautiful frame from Kohls:

Hope this helps! Please let me know if I can answer any questions. Happy planning and best of luck to everyone!!

welcome.gif  Happy planning!  I actually had a friend who is a graphic designer create my invitations and then we ordered them from Vistaprint.  However, I know that there's a thread for the passport invites on here with instructions.

You have all been soooo busy and this forum is just a-hoppin!!  Everything is looking so exciting :)

To my friends who are now "MRS."  Congrats, I can't wait to see more PICTURES and read each of your reviews!!  2 quick question for you ladies- I'm looking at doing a "scavenger hunt" the first day, nothing too big or drawn out just so the guest can get to know each other and a little bit of the resort.  Any suggestions or ideas on that?  I'm going to try to stick to the Nizuc area because the resort is too big and that is where we will be eating immediately after the hunt.  Also, I'm looking at doing a farewell brunch but not using a reservation -just meeting at a restaurant.  Which restaurant did you like most for breakfast and/or did you think would be easiest for us all to meet up at?  Thanks!!

I bought them at the store during my lunch break, I tried to find them online but they weren't on there.  They were in the cashier lanes at the store I was in.

Hey Ladies,

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up for those of you who may be mailing unusual objects via the US Postal Service.  I mailed my save the date luggage tags (posted earlier in this thread) in a normal Size 10 Envelope (basic envelope).  Because it was rigid (when you felt it it wasnâ€t smooth) and BARELY too thick (tech. has to be under 1/4in, which it was, but because it didnâ€t EASILY fit through, it was “too thickâ€) I am now facing some issues.  I checked several different post offices and mailing option and found out that on average, it would cost me about $1.60-$1.80 to mail an envelope with two luggage tags in them.  After standing in line for over an hour, when it was finally my turn, the clerk told me it would be $1.05/envelope.  I asked him to double check because I was sure it would be more and he told me he promised it would be fine.  Well I didnâ€t believe him so asked another person who was working there what she thought, and she also agreed with the guy.  So I paid what they quoted me, and gave them to the clerk, all wrapped up together, and reminded him it was for my wedding, and to please make sure they got where they needed to go ok.  WELL, 3 days later I check my mailbox and about 1/3 of them have been returned to me because of insufficient funds.  They envelopes, btw, were COMPLETELY ruined, written all over with in red ink, USPS stickers all on them. When I went to the post office to resend the ones I had received back, I asked what happened to the other ones.  Well, there was a 50% chance theyâ€d be delivered fine, and a 50% chance theyâ€d be delivered with a note DEMANDING MY GUESTS PAY THE 90 CENT DIFFERENCE TO GET THEIR STD! I am SO frustrated and embarrassed. crybaby2.gifI called the manager at the location where the issue happened and she apologized but said this is a COMMON ISSUE.  She suggest that in the future I handle it the same way (tell the clerk itâ€s a special mailing and wrap them together) but then additionally ask for  a manager to approve how much you are being charged and then write a note and attach it to the bundle you are trying to mail….has ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS STEP BEFORE? Apparently there are several different people who deal with the mail after you pay for it, and they can decide if additional postage is needed....

Anyways, I know most of you are past the point of sending stuff through the mail, but I thought I would put this out there anyways to hopefully save anyone from the humiliation of needing your guests to pay for their own STDs.  I quickly wrote an email to everyone to let them know what had happened and that it was no way expected, and to please ignore a request for additional payment and to just email me.  Iâ€m just going to end up resending them with the original postage I had planned on using.  Iâ€m going to TRY and see if the post office will reimburse me for the ones they send in error, but Iâ€m not very hopeful about that…. Good thing we have plenty of extra STDs but I'm so annoyed because I thought I had crossed that item off my list, and so embarrassed that the first thing most people will see for my wedding is a request for payment....especially when asking them to come to a destination wedding is more expensive than a traditional wedding :(

Hi Beatyea:

Contragulations, first of all!! I can't wait to see the pictures!

I wanted to ask, did MP charge you a "vendor fee" to get the flowers from Marvin? Also, how much were they, if I may ask?

Thanks in advanced!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
