I love the idea of the ease of a TA (and how it'd be free for me).  Teresa sounds great (thanks for the advice about Deanna, too), and I may call her to get some info.  Mochamakes - you say that using the membership would be a couple hundred more than using a TA?  Did your parents have a certain amount of "rooms" that guests could use?  What sort of benefits do you get from a membership that you wouldn't be able to get through a TA - it seems like other girls are saying they still get booking perks, but I'm still unclear.

I got assigned a WC!  Geraldine Flores.  Anyone else have her or have heard of how she is as a WC?

KR Smith - We will fly in on the 15th.  I'd be willing to meet up for sure - schedule permitting! :)  Man, it DOES feel so good to cross things off this list!

I did all the bookings, since I am listed as a beneficiary they let me do everything. When I priced out the options a few months before the wedding, the price for a package deal from Canada vs. booking our own flights and using the membership was a little bit less. My MOH booked through a TA and she said it was a couple hundred less. Looking back, I would have offered her the difference. We were only 5 nights away from the 75 night mark.

But, here was the process. About 8 months before our wedding I contacted Palace Resorts and arranged a room block for 30 rooms with a wide range of dates. We did not have to pay any deposits to secure the rooms, and I could have booked as few or as many as I wanted. When we booked our room, we had to pay 20%. The balance was due two months before arrival. The unbooked rooms were released one month before arrival. We were still able to make reservations within our block up until a few weeks before our arrival.

For the additional benefits with a membership, everyone in the group takes advantage of all the membership benefits. This is usually two free excursions, a free mani, free pedi, free 25-min back massage for each person. Even my 7 year old nephew went for a mani and pedi. Everyone gets the $1500 palace dollars, no matter whether they book with a TA or directly. As long as you have a group booking, you're entitled to the booking perks as you reach the different room levels. We had a few guests book outside our membership, and they were not included in our room night count.

We had Geraldine Flores, she is not a WC. She is only the wedding sales contact in Miami. She was actually the third person to handle our reservations. From my experience, nobody in the Miami office knows a thing about how to treat customers. They were all slow and made mistakes. That office was the only reason that made me regret not getting a TA.

I have Geraldine Flores also... she isn't really all that helpful (but I'm not sure that anyone in Miami is...). She answers some of my questions but not really in much detail. The majority of my questions she "forwards" to a WC at the Palace; however she has done this a number of times and I have yet to hear anything from them. The worst part about this is trying to be patient blink.gif because I want to try to get as much stuff done ASAP but it is difficult!

Does Teresa do some sort of Price match? . if the price goes down, she will refund you the difference type of thing? Or are you locked in for the price that you put down your deposit for? Does she offer payment plans?

Teresa was really nice but be careful and double check everything.  Deanna, Teresa's assistant helped us a lot and made a ton of mistakes.

First she had my FIs mother and aunt at a different wedding.  Then they booked my friend on nights that NO ONE was going to be there.  She wasn't even going to be there during the wedding and they tried to blame it on me. (Why would I book my friend when I wasn't even going to be there?)  Deanna also never responded to many of my family and friends e-mails. Just call at least once a week to follow up.

It was all good but just ask for a summary often and double check it.  Also, make sure to remind everyone to get the transfers.

Congrats!

My understanding is that prices will not go down. Moon Palace sets their rates for the year, and those are the rates. They don't fluctuate like normal hotel rooms may. My experience with Teresa has been good so far, and she was able to beat Moon Palaces group rates on rooms. She does offer payments plans. You (bride and groom) need to make an initial deposit to lock in the group room block. Then your guests can reserve their rooms with just a single nights deposit, and make payments on the room up until a final deadline (about 90 days prior to travel). Hope this helps?!

I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned it but I Used a TA in my area who was familiar was DW and she was able to let us book and if the price dropped we receive the money back. Its worked out well for my parents so far who have received over $100 back and we were able to do payment plans.

Thank you, Mochamakes & Future Mrs Hammer.  I think I may go through a TA after all to save myself the trouble.  Maybe if I go through the TA, then they could contact a WC easier and I could get some answers to my questions.  I can keep hoping, right? :)

Coconoir - I found your wedding website on this forum, and I took a peek since I'm in the process of creating ours.  It's amazing!!  Would you mind if I used some of your ideas for ours?

Really?  That is good to know then that the prices will not change.  It's good to hear she can beat MP prices and that she offers a payment plan! Thanks! :)

Thanks for the tip! I guess I need to decide if I want to go with Teresa or a local TA who specializes in DW! I wonder how your parents have gotten $100 back when MPweddingplan was told they don't change their hotel prices.

Have any other ladies been told they don't change their prices?  I'm slightly confused now.  Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
