Great STDs! I am just finishing up my message in a bottle STDs and hope to send them out this week! I think magnets would have been way easier and less time consuming! Well I hope that people will be so excited about them it will inspire them to go! Now if I could just get the room block situation under control...

What is everyone doing for room blocks and deposits? My TA says to block 20 rooms we need to pay $2050 up front (which will ultimately be credited to our room). I wasn't planning on having to spend such a large chunk up front...I have so many other things I need that money for! Is anyone else encountering this? blink.gif

I did not have to pay anything to hold my room block. MP does not require a deposit upfront to hold a room block (at least not with a wedding contract), so I am not sure why your TA would ask for that. thatswck.gif

Well dang! Maybe we should just go through the resort then! We paid a deposit ($850) for the Immaculate Conception package...are you going through the resort? How are you going about booking your guests? I was thinking of using a TA just because I thought it would be more convenient and get better rates, but its apparently not for us! I just want to make it as easy as possible for everyone. How many rooms did you block?

We originally blocked 20 rooms with our TA in late July/early August. Guest had until mid September (about 45 days) to pay a $100 deposit to hold their rooms. About half of our guest (12 rooms) booked then. In October the left over rooms were released back to the resort. Beginning of December we booked a second room block of 15 rooms directly with the wedding department. Guest have until March 18th to book those rooms. The reason we did the second room block directly with the wedding department was because our TA said she could not get any additional rooms at the rate we had for the first set of guest. My Miami wedding contact was able to guaranteed me the same rate that the first set of guest had. All rooms are being counted in our group booking. We did pay the deposit for the wedding ($300) but not for the room block.

To be honest sometimes I have to work around my TA to get answers and get things accomplished. And to think we picked a destination wedding because we thought it would be simple lol!

Is there a way to get my TA to go this route or should I just go without her and go directly through the wedding department? Do you still get discounted rates for room blocks through the hotel or can only a TA get you those? I would think that it would be WAY more reasonable to have each person pay their own $100 to get their room as opposed to us forking it over and maybe not all rooms would even be used! I guess I will have to just call the resort. We are sending out our STD this week...when would you call and get a room block set up?

I would talk to your TA, and if they are not willing to work with you, then I would be looking elsewhere for a new one.  Because it is obvious that she is not working with you and that won't make for a pleasant experience IMO.

I would explain to your TA that (when you were researching your options)you confirmed with the Palace Resorts groups sales department that no deposit is needed to hold a room block. Then ask her if she would be able to try again to secure one without the deposit. Its probably just her company's policy. If she cant then maybe you should go directly through the resort or use one of the TAs on this site. I secured my first room block the day I mailed my STDs so that things would be in place for people who wanted to book right away. Our TAs contact info was included on our STD and all of the payment amounts and deadlines were on our website.

You could go directly to MP for the room block and just use the TA for flights. I was able to secure a discount code directly from the airline just by calling the group department. The rooms from MP might be more expensive, and I would ensure with your TA that she is offering comparable rooms, not blocked views, etc.

Do we have to block rooms? I was not going to. I am just telling my guests to go talk to my travel agent if they want, and if they don't want to, and they just want to book on their own thats fine. I just dont feel like going through the process of booking the rooms and having people pay deposits yet, I feel its just too stressful.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
