Cabo Azul Brides!

Hi Ladies!

I thought I'd start this thread to help us all with our planning, especially because there aren't that many of us (or so it seems)!  Where are you in your planning?  Have you found ways to cut costs?  Has anyone done a site visit?  Have you decided on florists, DJs, or other vendors?

We are getting married on June 18, 2011 and are so excited.  I promise to post what I've found so far when I get another moment.  Good luck with your planning!

Hi sesilamadrigal!

We are having a pretty big wedding -- 130 -150 people, so I am trying to cut costs where I can!

Flowers/Centerpieces:

I would go through Leoan from Emporio Arte Floral or Lola from Florenta.  Both vendors gave many options, worked with my budget, and were very creative.  These two were the most cost effective and responsive that I've found.

Cake:

We might either do a small one, mini cupcakes, or skip it altogether.  Cabo Azul serves chocolate cake as one of their dessert options, that will be our guests "wedding cake"  -- cake is cake, right?  However, if you are looking for a vendor, Cabo Azul recommends Jennifer Hatton.  She seems to be a pretty popular vendor BDW too.

Photography:

Alec & T.  (www.alecandt.com).  They are much more expensive than some other photographers in Cabo, but pictures are important to us, so that is our splurge.  I am in love with their work.

Hair/Make-up:

Susanne Morel.  I know Cabo Azul has a spa/hair/make-up person, but I haven't heard anything about them.  I am going to Suzanne Morel because of her great reputation.

Rehersal Dinner:

Tequila's

PM me if you would like to hear more or have any questions!

Good luck with your planning!  We'll be at Cabo Azul through the 20th, so we might bump into each other!

Lisa

Oops.  I forgot to mention music!

DJ : The DJ we originally wanted was booked.  We now have DJ Joaquin -- $900 for the whole night (less than many of the more well known ones), from ceremony to reception.  He has been great so far -- super responsive and organized.

Cocktail hour music:  Daryl Currie, a guitarist.  (We want someone who can play Spanish guitar plus Jack Johnson -- he can do both!)  $300/hour or $500 for two hours.

Hi Ladies!

Hope all the planning is going well. I'm getting married at CAR July 23, 2011. I hired Tammy Wolff to help me along with the ladies at CAR.

We did a site visit in May and everything was great! My parents have been back a couple times since and Bertha has been so gracious to meet with them everytime just to say hello!

Flowers/Centerpieces:

We are using Leoan from Emporio Arte Floral. They've been great with getting back to Tammy with quotes and are working with me on creating exactly what I want. Cost is very reasonable.

Cake:

skipping cake as of now- I'm allergic to wheat so why waste the cash-we'd rather spend it on the bar. :). We're having the pear tart as dessert (we heard it's great).

Photography:

Jim Kennedy Photographers- From Orange County

Hair/Make-up:

Susanne Morel.  I know Cabo Azul has a spa/hair/make-up person- had a friend of friend who got married at CAR give them a less than great review based on her hair/makeup trial (she ended up doing her own).

Rehersal Dinner:

Don Sanchez Restaurant and Cantina- Tadd Sanchez, Owner has been awesome! He gave me several gluten free options to choose from so I can eat too. :)

DJ: Ricardo Patino

Solo Guitar: Alonso Aguirre

PM me if you would like to hear more or have any questions!

Congrats on booking at Cabo Azul!!

For our reception favors, I think we are going to fill mini white pails (Oriental Trading Co.) with margarita flavored Jelly Bellies, and then top them with drink umbrellas -- the umbrellas will have the name of each guest and their table number (that's how they'll find their table).  We are also making a donation to a cancer research fund in honor of a lost family member.

Bertha had a good suggestion: she recommended doing mini tequila bottles.  When it's time for the toast, everyone could toast with their tequila.  You could bring personalized shot glasses as well.  This could take the place of the ridiculously expensive champagne toast and would also serve as the favor.  :)

I know other brides are doing personalized maracas, Mexican tiles, or disposable cameras.  There is a whole thread on favor ideas on this site too.  Good luck!

Hi CAR Brides!

I just had to post after speaking to Bertha for an hour and a half on the phone.  Wow-- I feel so much more confident about our wedding!  She was wonderful.  I now have more than one cocktail hour venue to choose from, menu choices narrowed down, lists of the best appetizers, and great ideas for reusing ceremony decorations in the reception venue.  She was MORE than accommodating, and patiently listened to me while I rattled off two pages of questions.

I know that I was nervous about how this would all come together, and I thought that I would post my sigh of relief for anyone else who was feeling a little anxious.  We booked in September and this is the first time (January!) that I have spoken to her on the phone.  Do yourselves a favor and set up a phone date with Bertha earlier so that she can answer all of your questions and make you feel more at ease.  ;)

I'd be happy to share any of the above info if anyone is interested.

Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
