Just Booked Melia Caribe Tropical for Nov 2011!

Recommended Posts

This might be stupid but I was talking about it with my fiance, and he suggested using Google Translate, lol. If the language barrier gets out of hand, my fiances mother is Spanish, so she can help, but honestly, I've used Google translate before and it works really well. You could put your question into Spanish and see if that helps??? If she replies in Spanish, put it back in Google Translate! I just wonder if that would be insulting to them at all.... ? Otherwise I have no idea how to interpret her reply to you... are the sentences she replied with cut off here or is that really what she wrote?? They don't end!

Hi ladies!

Has anyone heard anything about the recent spread of cholera in the DR? My understanding is that it started close to the Haiti border back in Nov/Dec and there are now confirmed cases elsewhere.. including Punta Cana...

Does anyone have more information about this? My TA is contacting the Melia to see what their policies and procedures are in response to the recent news.. I will update once I get some more info.

Jennyalisha,

I found this article on the matter: http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/local/2010/11/20/37694/Ten-suspected-cholera-cases-under-investigation-in-DR

It made me curious as to what Cholera is exactly, so I looked it up on Wikipedia (not always the best source but gets the general point across) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholera

It sounds like this infection is the reason why we shouldn't be drinking tap water in countries like these. When we went to Mexico we used bottled water for all our drinking and oral care (such as brushing teeth ect.). I also took the Dukoral oral vaccine  before we went and my fiance got a prescription for the antibiotics before we left and brought that with him in case we got anything. Most good resorts use filtered water in all their food preparation.

I would say just be safe and don't drink the water. This won't stop me from going!

Hi ladies,

This question is probably best for those who have already had their weddings, but maybe those of you in the late planning know too....

I am having a symbolic ceremony and am just wondering, is the ceremony script chosen for you, or can you provide your own? And who performs the ceremony? I've read somewhere that it is performed in Spanish and translaterd by the WC? If so, would it be possible to provide your own script? How does that work?

Thanks!!

Hey Astef,

As far as I know for a symbolic ceremony it is just the WC who performs it and I would guess it would probably be in English, when it is a civil ceremony then I think it's the judge who speaks it in Spanish and the WC translates (my friend had a civil ceremony in Mexico and that was how hers was).

As far as getting them to do your own script it never hurts to ask but keep in mind that English is their second language.

Hi Ladies!  I am new to this website and we have booked our wedding at Melia for April 17, 2012!!  So excited!!  We have been to the resort before and loved it!!    Can't wait for the big day.

Question for you...Did anyone have a friend or a family member perform the symbolic cermomy?  My mom is a priest and I was hoping to have her do the ceremony for me!

Hey Girls! This is the former Destination_Diva. I forgot my password doh.gif and even though I messaged the admins to recover it they never got back to me  thatswck.gif so I just started a new account. cheesy.gif

Well its almost 4 months till my wedding day! My dress is in and my BM dresses are on order, my FH still hasn't asked all his GM so we haven't even looked at outfits for him. But other than that everything is under control, all our deposits are put down, we've ordered chair bows and got our cake decorations as well as we got all our OOT bag goodies too! (Maybe I'll try to upload some pics to share with you girls) woot.gif

I hope all my fellow Melia brides plans are going well too?

To Capecodder... I am having a civil ceremony so I wouldn't know if you can have someone else perform the symbolic ceremony, you'd just have to ask. Good luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
