How long after the DW should the AHR be?

We are getting married in July and then having our AHR 2 wks later. I called my photographer and was told that before we go home (we will be there for 10 days) he will get us the pictures on a CD but that they may not include the touch ups/digital recreations. I would recommend that  if you want pics to share at the AHR then just email or call the photographer and ask. Even if they can't get all of them to you before your AHR they should be able to email some of them. It doesn't hurt to ask and since they should be taken on a digital camera anyway it shouldn't be a big deal to do. I agree that having everything back to back is stressful. We will have our AHR a week after we come home. I have opted to just let my mother plan the whole thing. I've made a few small demands (must have a keg!) and of course will be helping but I won't be running the show. I have stressed over planning a DW for us and my very small guest list, I just want to relax for the rest of it!

As we are getting married March 6th, we decided to wait until August to have our AHR - this way it will be easier to budget and it will be summer too, - we plan to have BBQ style AHR!!!:))) So it all depends on what feel good to you, I don't think there are any rules :D

Hi Ladies,

I have a question about the AHR.... we have family all across the country and I know that not everyone will be making the wedding ceremony. And I can't decide where to have the wedding reception. We live in CA, have family here, AZ and NJ. I feel like whichever place we choose that people still won't want to travel that far for it. Any suggestions? Also, anyone know a good place in any of those cities to have to AHR....

I'm having my AHR 2 weeks after the DW, 1 week after FI and I get back.  Most of my family and friends are in CA, most of his are up and down the east coast....initially we were going to have 1 AHR which my parents are hosting, but my FI's family (most of whom could not afford to come to Mexico) said they would have difficulty coming to CA for it (due to cost and travel time)...so my FMIL is going to have a small reception in MD.  Probably not as full-on as my parents are doing, just a small gathering at a restaurant or small venue.   Since FMIL pulled that on me after i sent out invitations, that AHR is going to be a little later in the year (maybe August).  At least I'll get to wear my dress 3 times!

A week sounds quite rushed.  Do you even get off of jet lag before that?  Well, I guess a lot of destinations you may not have to deal with that.  We're having 3 AHR's,  one in my hometown, one in his and one where we both live right now.  One is a week after, one is 2 months and the other 3 months.  I don't see much of a rush for it though.  Do people see it as a part of the wedding?

We are getting married January 18, 2012 but waiting until June 9, 2012 to have our at home reception. I'd like to have it a little sooner but we live in Wisconsin and it's very cold and miserable here in the winter so I want to wait for it to be nice out. I hope people don't think that is too long to wait! It'll give us more time to plan and budget and the family that is traveling to Jamaica for our destination wedding will be able to attend our summer party too.

We got married June 25, 2011 and will have our AHR August 27, 2011. I think I always sort of wanted it well much later b/c I didn't want the pressure of planning two events so close together. My mom kinda chose the date, as she was sort of in charge of it. I wanted it to be really low key, a backyard BBQ, but with the amount of people we have to invite, the fire marshall would be shutting us down. Also, as others have said, the professional photos and video should be back by then ::fingers crossed:: I have the AHR setup as a sort of "viewing party".

I agree with AfricanVenus.  Mine are days apart and its crazy!  I thought it would be easier for the guests to go from one to the next but now guests from the wedding can't come to the AHR.  Doh!  I say a few months is good.

We got married June 24, 2011 and our AHR is September 24, 2011. We are paying for everything ourselves so this gives us time to budget some $$ for our reception. Also, we won't receive our pro pics until August so- I definitely wanted to have those back for the reception!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
