I think there have been similar posts on this before.

I am getting married on 24th Jan and return to London on 29th Jan - we are having our AHR exactly a week later on 5th Feb.  However this is personal preference; but I wanted to keep the wedding theme running and have it as close to our wedding as possible.

Personally I think anymore than 6 weeks after you return is too long - but of course theres no rule - your wedding, your party - you can do whatever you like for once in your life :-)) x

I personally feel that the day is about you and your new husband to pick the day. Because our wedding is 11-11-11 and the following weeks are the holidays, we decided to wait a full 3 months to the day of our wedding and have the ATH on Feb 11th.  What better way to celebrate LOVE than at a reception. Plus it gives me 3 months to prepare weddings pics for the slideshow :)

I think you can have it as quickly (or slowly) after your DW as you want! You might want to do it quickly if you don't want to drag out the "I'm getting married" for months and have your family and friends get sick of you :)

I am getting married in Cancun 2/19/11 and having the AHR 3 weeks after.  We wanted it even sooner, but realized we would need time to harass people for rsvps, do the seating chart etc and didn't want to feel stressed.

  • 2 weeks later...

We're getting married in January, I wanted to wait until summertime though- so we can have more of a BBQ type party. It's kind of a long time to wait, but I don't want a formal sit down reception, and that way people can work it into their holidays.  I was thinking maybe the weekend by Canada Day.

Next year I am getting married Saturday Nov 5th, returning from Mexico on Thursday Nov 10th, and having our At Home Party Friday Nov 18th.  We are having a party not a reception, so an exact guest count and seating charts will not be an issue for us - so we will give final numbers with a buffer before we leave for the wedding.  I wanted to have our AHP prior to the Thanksgiving to Christmas stretch as it is just so hard to get people together during that time.  And I didn't want to push the party out past the New Year because I wanted to celebrate our wedding while we are still newly weds.  So I will be a busy bee for a while, but then get to relax for the holidays.

We are taking our photogrpaher with us to Mexico, and I made sure he knew we wanted back at least some pictures in time for a slide show at the AHP.  I don't think we will have a problem with that as he had a DVD with our engagement pictures ready in a little over 24 hours!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
