OK so ever since I decided on a DW I have decided that I wanted to do a TTD shoot.

The plan was not to go mad on the dress so that I wouldnt have the worry of ruining my dress in the sea.......

It all went wrong when I went to the bridal store and fell in love with my waaaaaaaaaayyyyy over budget dress lol

So I got the dress....

So now I am wondering do I go ahead with the TTD shoot? Buying a second dress is not an option for me

Did any of you ladies use your "real" dress and was it really Trashed, or was it good as new after cleaning?

I think there are already a lot of threads on this topic, but I will say that I just had my TTD about a week ago and I used the exact same dress as my wedding ceremony/reception. It was not a cheap gown and was filthy dirty on the bottom after the wedding from the dancing and sand and just walking around. But after our TTD the water cleaned up the bottom really well. I just made sure to rinse it in the bathtub/shower when I got back to get any salt water off of it and I have yet to take it to the cleaners. But it looks brand new! It even has lace at the top and that withstood the waves and rocks. I say go for it! My only complaint was that my dress was pretty heavy and I had to keep pulling it up so the pictures wouldn't be showing 'too much' haha. That water will weigh it down fast. That would be my only concern if you plan on doing a cenote TTD. Once I get some TTD teasers, I can show you what a 'non-beachy' dress looks like in a cenote/sea.

Congrats on finding the dress!!!

I know what your going through. Before I had even gone dress shopping I had our TTd scheduled. Then I found my dream dress, which was way more than I had planned to spend. But I loved it and knew no other dress could compare. Ugh what to do for my ttd, my dress was way to expensive to even think about rolling around in the sand. My other thought was I love my dress so much I didn't want my ttd to be in another dress. So I ordered a knock off of my dress. I know you said a second dress is out of the question but maybe you could find something super inexpensive. Some of the dresses made in China are like $130. It might at least be worth looking into. Good luck..

I'm in the same situation and spent way more on my dress than I had planned and was debating if I should get a second dress for the TTD. My FI has a good point and said, "you won't wear it again so if it gets a little ruined what's the big deal?". I thought about it and he's right and si I won't spend the money on a second dress.

I am happy to hear that OceanWonderland's dress was fine afterwards so this makes me feel better. Thanks!

In my opinion, you really only wear the dress once.  However, if you feel that you do not want to ruin the dress in the water etc. I would suggest doing nice pictures on the beach after the ceremony (where you do not get the dress wet), and then just buy a simple white dress (like a beach cover up or something similar) and use this for your TTD.  I'll be wearing my wedding dress for the TTD.

  • 6 months later...

I just got my TTD dress for $20 at the Jessica McClintock outlet in San Francisco!  While I realize this completely is NOT the point of a TTD, it also officially alleviates my guilt of “trashing†something that cost over $1,000 and opens up the possibility of donating it to a good cause.  Whew!  Having my cake and eating it too…

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
