What sold you on picking this resort. I am planning a June 2013 wedding and having so much trouble picking a place to fit all my needs. Also who is your WC and did you speak to them while you were there? Do you have any pdf doc's about different wedding options? Thanks I hope you had a great time! Email me at dwenski16@gmail.com if you want.

I have also heard that there is no legal residency requirement in the DR.  The WCs just tell you 3 days so that they can schedule a meeting with you and have time to hash out the details.  If you feel like you're cutting it close with your arrival, I would just work it out with them to make sure you'll have enough time to meet and they'll have enough time for all of your inevitable last minute requests and changes :)

We put my dress & my husband's suit in a garment bag and carried it on (I should clarify - my husband carried it most of the time :)  On both of our flights down, the attendants acted like there was a possibility of not enough room in the closet to hang it, but that was never the case.  We did have to "fight" another bride on our second leg from MIA to PUJ - we saw her carrying hers and were hoping that they wouldn't board before us and were disappointed to see them line up with first class.  But I guess they jumped the gun and were told to stand aside and wait.  We got in line with our Priority Access and they ended up boarding right after us but we were able to snag the last of the space in the closet.  That was either a rare bridezilla moment for me or just my natural competitive side coming out. :)  Anyway, the point is that most airlines have that flight attendants' closet that you should be able to put stuff in but it's probably only enough room for one dress.

The Barcelo doesn't have any steaming services - Marlene actually said it was very rare for any Punta Cana resorts to have this, not sure if that's true.  But my dress was fine and didn't need any additional steaming than what my seamstress had done in the final fitting.

My husband wore a tan suit that we got for a really great price at Jos A Bank.

Coty - La Barcaza was awesome!  One of the highlights of our wedding week - we did a lunch cruise there the Thursday before the wedding and it was a blast.  Good choice!

natalie - I think some of the rooms have frosted glass doors.  They are really big on the open concept bathroom down there.  The toilet rooms are generally sorta tucked away from the bed area so it's not terrible but for people who are not couples it might be sorta awkward.  None of our non-couple guests who shared rooms said anything about them.  My mother-in-law got us one of the big pimpin suites for the bridesmaids to get ready in and for us to have on the wedding night and those bathrooms had actual doors so if you're spending the big bucks for a nicer room, you'll get the doors!

I recently got engaged and I am looking to my wedding at BBPD in July/Aug of 2013. I am grateful to have found this website! It's been very useful and to find future brides sharing, communicating their experiences and ideas is a relief. I look forward to planning my wedding with y'all!

Thanks again Sunny for the information!

My TA just returned from BBPD for another wedding and she said that it is very well handled and runs very smoothly.  That the WC's are so extremely busy she sees why now that it is so difficult to get an answer from them when you are not there. Just wanted to share though for nervous brides...it seems like everything goes really well once you arrive and have your meeting.

To have a wedding on the beach is $345 EXTRA. If I can put in my two cents, It's not worth it. Both locations (the beach gazebo and the actual beach) are dead center of the resort and there is absolutely no privacy. I saw a couple of weddings set up and you have the aisle....and then a fat European in speedos. I got married in the garden and it is absolutely secluded and best of all.. private. If that's something you might be interested, that could be an option. I just got back last week, I also had Susana. Everything was fine except she was running half hour behind and the judge almost left! I included an image for you guys.9.JPG

Is that a sheet laid out for the aisle or a concrete pathway? last pics i saw it was like stone steps so i am wondering if they changed it!!!

I found the easiest way to get in contact with your WC is to call the hotel and ask to speak to your WC. Most of the time they will not be there but someone picks up. Let them know who your looking to speak with and when an email was sent and a message will be left with your WC. The WC will get back to you within 24 hours. I have done this twice this week and Susan has replied back with my email same day. I also wanted to get advice of blocking rooms. Did you guys negotiate rates with the hotel or did your TA? Whats has been yall methods? The rates my TA has received for next Aug is high and looking to get a better rate for my guest.

So I have a question about flowers. Have any of you future brides been able to say this/these are the flowers I want and they said it was do- able? I can't get an answer about flowers at all. I don't want to just have them pick my bouquet but it seems like that's what they do. So has anyone had any say in flower choices at all?

Natalie: As I understand from Susana you can pick your flowers. I have the Tangerine Package and she sent me 3 pictures of flowers/bouquet that I can choose from that is included in my package. From what I gather each package has a certain bouquet you can choose from with the Tangerine having the most options of 3 choices. LMK I can send you them to you if you want. Hope that helps!

On another note: Sunny/Coco did you guys have floating candles in the pool area at bar Higuey? Just curious with the space how many would you need to make it look decent?

Hi cocoHolly,

It's a concrete pathway. I'm glad that it didn't have stone steps or else I would have came out in my wedding pics with scratches and two black eyes!

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
