Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe

Thanks! Did you ladies pick the package out when she confirmed your date? I was thinking the Strawberry package but if I have more guest I might have to bump up to the tangerine package.

my guest will have exactly a year to get it together. Our engagement party is March 31st.

Was confirming your date an easy process?

What was the original date you were considering? I've never been to DR in September but have plenty of family that travel back in forth. With September, you'll be taking a chance. It does rain a lot around this time but earlier in September, it's still really hot and you run the risk of having those downpours that really only last 20-30 minutes or so. But if it helps, DR hasn't really been hit very hard by a major hurricane in quite a few years. They're honestly not as common in DR as many might think.

Many of my family members that do travel to DR in the fall usually go in October (lots of baseball leagues do tournaments during this time) and from what I've heard, it does rain less then.

Hi LovelyGemini,

My original date was April 12 but we need to move it back for a multitude of reasons. I was also told there would be a convention at the resort that weekend so they would likely sell out (meaning it'd be hard for my guests to get rooms), and our reception was also moved from Bar Higuey to Las Prisas Restaurant, which was actually OK with. (I think I've heard of only one other bride having her reception there.)

April seemed ideal from a weather perspective. But now I'm considering the Fall, so as to give people ample notice (we haven't sent anything out yet). I'm just terrified of the weather situation, probably unnecessarily.

Sagesma,

I know, I really did not think this many of our friends and family would actually go. But then again, we did invite over 200 ppl! :o

I decided not to use a traditional travel agent, used Delta Vacations instead so people would still have some autonomy in booking their packages while still getting a small discount. Some family members and friends did use other options like Cheap Caribbean and things like that but I didn't want to drive myself crazy trying to be in charge of people's booking. Delta Vacations will give me a list of guests that booked using our discount code but as far as everyone else, we've just been asking guests when are they arriving and when they're leaving.

Strikers has a very casual vibe and the performance space is open-aired and rarely used during the day, but all the lounge chairs and tables are still there. It's a great second option, although it is not air-conditioned. There is a larger bar that is air-conditioned and it's little less casual. It's located right off of the lobby and it's called Carey Bar. It is pretty big and has comfy chairs and a piano.

Yea, you definitely don't want all your guests to get stuck with the struggle of trying to find a room. And you should be able to use the reception space that you want. Hopefully they can do that for you if you change your date. Fall really isn't a bad idea, it does give you more time to plan and the prices will probably be cheaper for  your guests to fly out there since it's not really "high-season"

When you reserve your date, I believe you do have to choose your package but I'm sure they'd be willing to accommodate any changes you wanted to make after that. I knew from the very start we would need the Tangerine package at the very least.

The process to reserve did take some time. I sent out two emails and then called before I got an answer. But the only thing is, they start reservations on April 1st of the prior year. So if you wanted to have your wedding in March 2015, you wouldn't be able to reserve your date until April 1st 2014 because that's when they release their prices for the following year. They tend to take their time in responding, especially if your wedding is still a year away. They also require a deposit when you reserve the date, but it's only a percentage of the base package you choose.

Hi fellow Brides, I'm pretty new on this forum and still deciding on resorts...just curious what made you all choose Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe over all the other Punta Cana resorts.

THanks!

Top 3 reasons:

1) Family friendly:  I have a son and I have families coming and I wanted to ensure they were well accommodated.

2) Casino/shows:  The older generation probably won't have too much fun at the clubs but my family does love the casino and I heard the shows each night are amazing.

3) Price:  It has everything we were looking for at a reasonable price.  We were deciding between the Majestic and Hard Rock and the Barcelo came on top.

Since booking, we know another couple from our city that chose the Barcelo.  So it must be doing something right!

I am excited for all the brides who's wedding date is quickly approaching.  lt's been a while since I've been on here (stupid change). But 2014 is finally here!  Woohoo!

PS. Waiting for RSVP's sucks.

any one know about being able to use Chi straighteners (or any type of straightener) and curling irons in DR? I heard from some people you can't because North American styling tools are 110V and it will blow up your styling tool... even if you tried using a converter. Is this so? I think I'd go crazy if I can't use my styling tools.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
