Samantha2, how much is the outside vendor fee again? Sis of bride, we are from Winnipeg and using a travel agent (which offers us some perks), however, when we went to DR a few years ago, we booked through Air Canada Vacations and were happy. Maybe just ask a TA just to compare costs...

Thanks Samantha2,

Since this will be such a small wedding, my sis opted to just make the arrangements herself directly with AC Vacations. However I am guessing that with using a TA would help with things like arranging for the hotel rooms to be together, etc.? She still hasn't had her date confirmed by the hotel yet, (although Registration form only submitted yesterday :) ..so not even sure if her date will work out.

New here... My sister is getting married (or hoping to LOL) at the end of this January. I have been helping her plan what started out as a simple 'beach wedding' to what now has become a bigger undertaking than either of us expected! We have gone from Atlantis to Cuba to now Punta Cana, specifically BBPD - and reading this blog has certainly confirmed for me her choice in location. HOWEVER.. we have not yet heard back from a WC and would like to start booking the hotel/flights this week! I know, rediculous as it sounds, we are moving fast and have a lot to cover over the next week. So a confirmation of date would be nice. Quick question for you ladies (as you are all SO informative!): How are you getting your guests to book their rooms/flights? We were thinking of working with Air Canada Vacations (we're in the Toronto area), and they have a package sale on now with really attactive options - offered only until the end of October. The bright side is that most of the guests are immediate family so most booking can be done in one shot. Just not sure if the resort prefers booking through their website? Anyhow, any insight would be most helpful! Thanks!!

Hello Sis of Bride,

We are actually from Canada too and using Air Canada Vacations.  We hired a Destination Wedding Travel Agent and it was the best thing we have done in regards to the wedding.  She booked our date and time with the resort so I wasn't constantly waiting to hear back from the WC at the resort.  I also think the process went a bit quicker with the travel agent then if I had of done it myself, she has a relationship with the WCs at the resort.  She also took care of booking everyone which was WAY easier than me trying to make sure everyone was booked.  The travel agent created a website with all the prices and tons of needed information so that our guests could find everything there.  She was also able to alert us to deals that we didn't see advertised with Air Canada Vacations.  Using a travel agent gives you someone to deal with any of the kinks that show up, we had someone needing to cancel before their final payment and she took care of cancelling that person and changing the room to a single room for the person sharing a room.  It would have taken me a lot longer to figure the process out plus she had lots of options for that person cancelling in regards to their situation.   I could go on and on but I'll just add in again it was the best decision we made with the wedding!!  Let us know if you have any other questions!

I didn't have to e-mail TP the spanish version of my question because I asked my WC if she can just help me book TP or how does the deposit work, and she replied that I don't need a deposit at all and that we can just sit down togeter with TP when I arrive, so I'm going her route. If I can wait to pay them later why not?! I just don't know why TP was asking me for 30% deposit prior to arrival.

Ok good, yeah my WC just said she would make a note of it and no problem. I'm using TC just for their photobooth... FI requested lol

Thanks Samantha2 for the advice on the TA.

My sis ended up working with a highly recommended TA who specializes in DW's - and so far she has been great! In fact she's headed to Punta Cana this week to tour resorts and BBPD is on her list. She also knows Daniela the WC, so this will hopefully speed up the contact process! We still have not heard from Daniela regarding confirmation of the date - she did however email again to say she would contact us as soon as she confirmed the judge availability. We just want to book this and get the ball rolling! Our TA has already got a package price quote going for us and we want to send this out to guests asap.

How long did it usually take for the WC to come back with the date confirmation?

Hi Trish... Do you think the trip was cheaper later in April because earlier in the month is spring break for a lot of kids? Mine is April 12th and I'm a little worried about the travel costs and how many people will be traveling at that time. It's the weekend before Easter, and I hear a lot of school aged kids go on spring break that week, so a lot of families tend to vacation around that time.

I also hear there's a convention in town the weekend of my wedding. Not happy. Thinking of moving the date!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
