JDunn Thanks so much!! I really appreciate it! I was just at hobby lobby today looking at real touch flowers for my own bouquet and they really are so "real" haha. I am still waiting for pricing for flowers for my tables (but I think I may re-use my bridesmaid bouquets on the reception tables too).

I also am doing a table number similar to yours. I got watercolor paintings of states that mean something to our relationship, so guests will be sitting at a "state" rather than a table number. Im bringing my own vases and centerpiece stuff, just still waiting on the flower situation to figure that out.

Thanks again! Beautiful pictures!! I love the cake too. And yes the cocktail hour looks so awesome! Im almost sad I have to leave to take pictures and miss it!

I think the Bar Higuey will be fine, especially when the sun goes down! We walked around that area and it's so nice!

As for centerpieces, we decided to do our own because Susana wanted to charge an arm and a leg for everything! I asked how much just simple candles in the center would cost and she said $50 per table!

So, we named every table a city. On a hanging frame (from Michaels in the scrapbooking section), we put the city name, a picture of us in that city, and a description of why the city is important to us. I will post a pic. Then around that, I put 5 floating candles (in plastic votives) and then one votive of flowers. I bought the "real touch" flowers at Hobby Lobby. They feel so real! It was super easy to pack all of it too. It cost about $25 a table (but we spent a lot of money at Staples because we kept messing up the city descriptions!)

The beach is pretty close to the garden gazebo. We just had to walk through the lobby area of the adult only section and the beach is on the other side. One hour was plenty of time. I even had time to go back to the salon to re-curl my hair!

I think the cocktail hour was def worth it! I think it gives your guests something to do while you're taking pics, plus it's gorgeous! Check out the pics!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

JDunn,

Thank you for your very detailed pointers and pictures!

I've been kind of lurking on this forum for a couple of months as I've been started to really get into the planning for my April 2014 wedding. And I'm not even sure I've really figured out how to use this thing either! LOL I have just confirmed my date at time (April 5 2014 at 5pm) on the beach with Helen Carpio and we have just paid our deposit for the Tangerine Sunset package. We have a meeting with Helen in early July for details and to discuss how we're going to manage to accomodate our very large guest list (Invites approx. 200, at least 100 expected)!

I experienced very good and quick responses from Helen, especially once I called after over a week of no reply to my email requesting confirmation (IN SPANISH) of my date. However, after we paid the the deposit, I simply got a response saying that the payment information has been forwarded to the appropriate department and that I would soon receive a detailed package with more information. This was about a week ago.

Any idea what else she could possibly be sending? Perhaps a list of extras and information for the photographer, DJ, flowers, etc.?

Also, I've read so many things about having the reception at Bar Higuey but I'm concerned about the guests' comfort, especially since I'm assuming the ballroom has AC and will keep us away from the blood-thirsty, vicious DR mosquitos

MissJali,

I think I've been having the same issue as you. I'm also a serial travel and I'm getting hounded by the future-in-laws and my crazy Dominican family on what would be the most cost-effective way of booking this. I look the idea of a TA like Apple Vacations to keep track of my guests but I don't like the idea of having to put another deposit. I've been looking into Delta Vacations because they offer a discount code to our friends and family after we book ours. I'm still new and trying to navigate this site, but have you tried a local travel agent like Liberty? I'm hoping they may have better pricing and give people the option of payment plans.

I'm trying to decide all this before sending out invitations because I want to include the TA info on there.

Can someone please post the price list for Tropical Pictures or tell me where to find it? Do we need to book our spa time in advance? My ceremony is at 4 so need to have the bride room that morning (time suggestions?) for hair and makeup. Also, should I do my Tangerine facial that day or the day before? Should I do a manicure and pedicure before I leave or in the spa there? I leave on a Wednesday and the wedding is Friday. Thanks!!!

I have a few questions, I'm trying to see if I can cut costs in some places. Like I was thinking for Videography to not have a package, and maybe one of our guests videotape the whole thing, including us getting ready. Do you think they'll be ok with that?

Also, I was thinking of just using an ipod dock or an ihome for the music for the wedding... Has anyone done that? Was it ok or would it be worth it to have the DJ? And can you bring your own ihome??

I looked over what the package includes, which now I feel like isn't as much as I thought. We are doing the Tangerine Package, and the thing that gets me is that it says like open bar for 3 hours... Ummmmm, isn't the whole resort all inclusive? So how would that be as part of the package?

One last thing, someone mentioned about renting a cabana by the pool for $10 a day, when would you set that up?

Thanks everyone!

The spa when I contacted them want you to make your reservations one month in advance. My wedding is june and she said she would like to hear from me in may.
I have no idea about the facial, never had one! And if you think it would take time away from your vacation and with your guests then i would get the mani/pedi before you leave. You can always get a polish change for way faster while there if you run into any problems.

Im sure they will be fine with someone videoing you and your wedding. Never once I have heard that wasnt okay, especially if it isnt an outside company and the person doing the videoing is a paying guest.

Not sure about the ipod. I know many brides say the MC is worth the cost, just to keep things going and structured.

Yeah I think it is funny that for cocktail hour, welcome cocktails etc that they charge you for food and drink. But it is nice in the tangerine package you get international bar (which is not all inclusive at the resort) and it covers the personal servers you will have.

I am assuming you would do the cabana daily. If you are worried about making sure you have one you could ask Susana or talk to the host when you check in about it.

Hi Candacey!

You mentioned that you are arriving on a Wednesday and marrying on a Friday. Has the resort said this was ok? I'm not sure how stringent they are on the 3 day rule so I'm really hoping they ok'd this for you!  I really want to arrive on a Sunday night (my wedding is on a Wednesday) and keep my extra days on the back end of the wedding. Let me know!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
