I have been in contact with Marlene using bavaro.bodas@barcelo.com although sometimes she takes a while to respond.

Great review JDunn! Very helpful! Although now I'm even more worried about the filtered water!!! I got pretty sick last time I was in the DR and man does that ruin a trip!

I have an appt to meet with Marlene this summer (almost one year to the day before the wedding!) and make the arrangements. I too have been contacting her at the bavaro.bodas@barcelo.com address. She has been very responsive to me because we are scheduling our meeting for this coming June. I guess it's all prioritized by date. I'll be put back on the backburner right after my meeting I'm sure! lol

I have a question for you girls... I am getting married on a Wednesday next year (June 18th) and am concerned about the amount of days I would need to be there prior to the wedding. I am hoping to arrive on a Sunday so I can use my additional days on the back end of the wedding (so I can relax!). I prefer to have a legal wedding but that depends on how many days ahead I need to arrive...as well as the other restrictions that I don't yet know about. Does anyone know if I can arrive on a Sunday and get married on a Wednesday?

Thanks!!!

Jeannette

Hello, i have called the resort directly and spoke to Helen who was very helpful in picking the date for me. I reserved the date over the phone and send her the reservation form and my cc details a few minutes after the call. I suggest that you call the wedding department to discuss the available dates and times.

The resort says three days not including Sundays. So you will have to ask because I am not sure if the day you are getting married counts as the third day.

For me it took about one week (But I am doing symbolic and did not need the judge). Then after I sent in the deposit form and money it took her around two weeks to actually respond that she got it and all was good.

Hi Natalieblev!

I think the Bar Higuey will be fine, especially when the sun goes down! We walked around that area and it's so nice!

As for centerpieces, we decided to do our own because Susana wanted to charge an arm and a leg for everything! I asked how much just simple candles in the center would cost and she said $50 per table!

So, we named every table a city. On a hanging frame (from Michaels in the scrapbooking section), we put the city name, a picture of us in that city, and a description of why the city is important to us. I will post a pic. Then around that, I put 5 floating candles (in plastic votives) and then one votive of flowers. I bought the "real touch" flowers at Hobby Lobby. They feel so real! It was super easy to pack all of it too. It cost about $25 a table (but we spent a lot of money at Staples because we kept messing up the city descriptions!)

The beach is pretty close to the garden gazebo. We just had to walk through the lobby area of the adult only section and the beach is on the other side. One hour was plenty of time. I even had time to go back to the salon to re-curl my hair!

I think the cocktail hour was def worth it! I think it gives your guests something to do while you're taking pics, plus it's gorgeous! Check out the pics!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Your flowers were beautiful! That is one thing I am worried about but those looked so nice! I did however order my cups already from Factory 21 so I am not looking forward to that happening!!! Oh well atleast i know ahead of time if it does!

If you dont mind I just have a couple questions:

What did you do for reception centerpieces? If you purchased flowers for the centerpieces about how much per table did it cost?

Since you got married in the gazebo did you end up going to the beach during the photo session? If so did it take long to get over there? I am worried about the time only having one hour before the reception begins.

Did you think the cocktail hour was worth it? We are doing it and I thought since we are over kind of seculded at the gazebo it would be the best idea.

thanks again! great info.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
