It doesn't seem like it's worth it unless you use the rooftop for the ceremony. It's definitely more a private option. I wanted to do my welcome dinner up there, no way I'm spending $500 extra and I can't have food up there. I fell in love with the pier from the first time I ever stood on it and once i saw they could do the ceremony there, the beach was no longer an option.

Apparently it's a covered space near the beach but is not completely indoors. From reading on this forum, only one bride has said she used it and it's not a space typically used for receptions but they let her use it b/c it started raining during her beach reception. FYI the ballrooms are fully indoors and the only other reception space that's not is Bar Higuey. There are plenty of pictures of the ballrooms in this thread. Although I haven't seen a pic of the Palapa, the bride that used it said it was very nice.

Thank you very much for the respose! I will find out about Palapa as it sounds like a great option.

Hello, I don't have anyone in my wedding who i would like/or who would want to act as MC. So, i would like to hire a local MC. Does anyone have any feedback? Are local MCs good and do they speak good enough English? They are somewhat expensive but i think it might be worth to pay.

Thank for all of the posts!!!!!

I am new to this forum, I am getting married at the Barcelo Palace Deluxe on May 3, 2013, will be a church wedding at 18:00. I am using the package strawberry.

I am very sad and angry, that I decided to make my reception on the beach and when we had coordinated almost everything, Marlene tells me that, for the hour of the reception and will be dark and I need to add the light package, which costs approximately $ 2. 000 (two thousand dollars) .... this is crazy, I can not pay this much money for only 3 hours of daylight at the beach. plus we're already paying $ 15 extra for having the reception on the beach.

Can anyone advise me on another location for the reception, I do not like the idea of having dinner in a closed room and Marlene tells me the bar higuey already booked on that date.

appreciate your advice.

xoxo

I asked for the reception on the beach but they told me i will not pay anything extra to have it on the beach (i will reconfirm though). Adding lights to the reception is additional $2,000? This is outrageous!

Mary,

You may have been given the beach option for no extra charge because you originally requested Bar Higuey and it is booked on your date. I've heard of brides saying that they got a beach wedding included as an accommodation for some other shortcoming (i.e. their original reception space was not available due to double booking, conventions, etc.)

The DJ package from the hotel has MC options if that is what you are going with. You can get the dj with or without.

Stoledo I am also having a beach reception on May 4th, 2013 which we are not starting until 7pm. I was told that regular lighting would be included for no extra cost. I would have to pay more if I wanted colored lighting. I am paying the extra money per person to have the beach reception. We are having to pay about a thousand for a dance floor if we want it. As far as the palapa on the beach I was told that they did it for one bride because they double booked her for another location and that they had to make it up to her. They said they will not hold my reception there and not to worry that they will make the beach beautiful. I also do not want the ballroom and bar higuey is booked. I know it is frustrating, but I am trying not to worry and just figure it out when I get there and I will be as happy with how it all turns out just how everyone has been! Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
