OMG Tamara, i swear you've been crazy helpful. I have to keep that company in mind. Maybe i;ll be nice enough to pay for my guests too lol. As far as Barcelo Vacations, it seems like its $45 for up to 5 pple. Here is the website http://www.vacacionesbarcelo.com/cabecera.jsp?content=repdominic/repdominic#

Whenever I go to DR, I usually use Prieto Tours when I book thru bookit.com.

Natalie, how much are they quoting you?

Natalieblev, thanks for the laugh! My guests (along with the groom and I) will be drunk by 2 PM if we have an 11 AM ceremony!! Trivera5521, how far in advance did you book your 4PM wedding? I think there may be other weddings that day, but the WC is being very unclear. She says we can chance a later ceremony time if there is a cancellation.... Seriously? How many people are actually going to cancel??? Also, she won't guarantee Bar Higuey until I pay 30% of the package ($1200). So... I am supposed to pay that much for a ceremony time I am unhappy with and no guarantee the reception will be where I want it?!!? I don't understand why she can't tell me if Bar Higuey is available that night... Especially if there are other weddings going on. Sorry to vent but I am freaking a little bit (not to mention expecting a baby in 2 days, so rather hormonal!) For other brides using Bar Higuey, did you confirm the location before or after your deposit?

Thanks Miss Jali...I emailed them and they said: "If you get the combine transfer you may have other passengers from other hotels that need to be dropped off or picked up during your ride. If you get the private transfer then it will go directly to the hotel."

Sooo I never was asked if we wanted a combined or private....My TA just said the transfer through the hotel could be booked through her and that it was a 30 $ roundtrip fee for each guest. I dont know if she negotiated that or if that was what they presented her...I have no idea, but that was a flat rate for everyone.

We also have looked into the company Tamara is using- and will be using that one for FI's immediate family which has eight plus an infant. It will come out to 10$ a person round trip. They have some really negative reviews so we have not booked it yet, but FI told me today that he thinks it will be fine and since it is only scheduling one trip rather than having everyone picked up by them (our guests are coming in at all times during that Saturday) it shouldnt be a problem.

Wow early congratulations on the baby!!

They did the same thing to me with Bar H. I had a confirmed time of 4 pm for the wedding and was okay with that, but I worried that I would pay and then she would stick me in a ballroom after she got the money! :) Luckily, right after i paid (well okay two weeks later) she confirmed in writing to my TA that we would have the Bar H for the reception. I would worry slightly on your day just because they dont even have a good time available for the ceremony, which makes me think more weddings are happening that day and could be claiming Bar Higuey for their reception.  But I would NOT pay for a confirmed wedding of 11am. Once they have your money, it doesnt matter anymore. Since you are still in the planning stages I would try to get another day so that once you do make your deposit you atleast are getting confirmation that you will have a ceremony at a normal time and it would help your chances to get the reception location as well.

Also I have to remember that even though it is in writing that no other bride will get the reception location before me, they still say that they reserve the right to move it due to conventions, etc. So who knows! It seems like everyone who has had their wedding there in the last year has had nothing but great things to say about the running of things, so Im not going to stress.

Hey,

We have been very lucky so far.  We hired a destination wedding coordinator who arranges all the major details with the resort and books all the travel for our guests.  As of yet I haven't had to deal with the WCs at the resort.  I have read many people saying they wait long times for responses.  Our destination wedding coordinator is the best $300 we have spent on the wedding!!!  We went with the Tangerine Sunset package with a ceremony on the beach.

Some people have been talking about the Bar Higuey and how they won't confirm until you pay or that they can move your reception.  We actually booked the presidential suite for our reception and will have everything set up on the balcony (something that we are super excited about!!).  I wasn't willing to have my reception in a ball room and didn't want to risk the reception being moved.

Disazaja - Did you have to pay for anything when you did your site visit, the food tasting, hair trial, anything like that?

Natalie, I've traveled to DR many times since I'm dominican. I've never really had a bad experience when it comes to the transfers. You just have to know that it's just like a cab ride. Expectations can't be that high unless you hire a private car company to come get you. Usually I've always been lucky and was always one of the first stops. However I will say, that I almost NEVER take the airport transfer back to the airport when I'm leaving as I never want to leave and they want to get you as early as they can to account for the many hotel stops they have to do. I always just have a cab called from the resort when it's time for me to leave lol. I think the company Tamara is using will be fine. If I were you, I would def ask your TA if the transfer is private. That's something I will look into, depending on how many guests actually book.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
