Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe

Mbrady, when you say you are working on the fixed menu, do you mean you are trying to get Marlene to give you a choice on entrees? That is someing we are not too thrilled about - the fact that all guests will eat the same thing. It's sorta frustrating how rigid the Barcelo seems to be on certain things. My fiancé has 2 older sisters who got married in Riviera Maya and my future mother-in-law has said aometimes you just have to keep harassing them until you get things done the way you want. Marlene had mentioned in an email that they are working on getting a catalog of flowers, etc. ready so they can show you ideas of what they can do, but it also does seem like you can send pics of what you want. I haven't picked out shoes yet either but a couple of good sites I've looked at are ninashoes.com, myglassslipper.com, and 6pm.com.

Sunny...is that really how it is? No food options, everyone eats the same thing? Is it a buffett where there are mutliple options or is it pretty much a plated dish kinda like chicken all the way around? Ugh that really does suck!!

I am trying to get more options. I want 2 picks rather than everyone eating the same thing. If I say they have allergies they will have something else, but how many people can I lie about. I don't think buffet is an option, its all sit down. Bugging her is kinda my thing. I send an email with 10 questions at once lol.

Marlene hadn't told me about a flower catalog. I did find a youtube link of a wedding there. It showed the photos and the basic ceremony. But its helpful. I emailed the couple who posted it, so I'll keep you posted if I hear from them.

Sunny your getting married there before me so I will so be asking you about it after. I found some nice Badgley Mischka shoes. Where are you having your ceremony, Beach, catholic? And do you know the deal with the DJ situation?

mbrady,  I also send her emails with about 10 questions!  I'm sure she's used to it. :)  Thanks for sending that youtube link, it was cool to see that.  We are having the ceremony in the garden area next to their convention center.  They have a garden gazebo but it looks sorta janky so we opted for the garden.  We're doing our reception in an area called Bar Higuey - it's in the convention center but it's actually an open air space.  Here is a pic of it that we took on our site visit.

I don't really know too much about the DJ situation - Marlene has told us we can give her a word doc of songs to give to him and she will make sure he has the songs we want, or we can meet with him based on his availability.  I'd like to give him a list, verify he has all our songs and offer to send mp3s of ones he doesn't have and also bring an iPod/laptop as backup.

lol trivera, there are many options for the reception!  You can do it in one of their restaurants, on the beach, in the Bar Higuey space that I showed above, and as you said, in one of the ballrooms.  We felt the same way about the ballrooms, all the resorts have them and it's sorta like, you could be in a ballroom anywhere in the world.

Also, there are a ton of options for ceremony sites too - an ocean gazebo, the garden gazebo, a pier (which actually looks really cool but it holds max 55 and we will have more guests than that), the beach, a really cool roof terrace that is surrounded by an infinity pool-looking fountain, and a Catholic chapel (which seems to be a big draw for some girls).

Phew thanks Sunny that was such a big help!!! I am even that more excited to visit in a few weeks!! Now to just work on the whole food options thing with her...then we will be in business LOL!

Did you pay extra to have your reception at Bar Higuey? Just wondering if there is an extra fee for the different location options?

Nope, we didn't have to pay extra for Bar Higuey, with the Tangerine Sunset package.  I'm not sure about extra fees for other locations.  I would imagine if Bar Higuey doesn't have one, others don't either.  Although, when we were considering having the rehearsal dinner at one of the restaurants, there was a charge if you wanted to whole restaurant to yourself, as opposed to having just an area reserved for your group.  But Marlene said that charge included food, drinks, and service - so I'm not sure how that works with the actual wedding reception.  I bet those locations are included for the wedding reception, but you would have to pay a location fee if you wanted it for some other event (for example, we are gonna do welcome cocktails on the Wednesday before the wedding on the roof terrace and there is a charge associated with that).

Let me know how it goes with discussing the food options - if you are successful then I might have to cite you as an example!

Trivera the bar higuey is really nice. Its covered for all weather but you don't feel like your inside at all. I didn't ask about a beach dinner cause we didn't want to eat on the sand. But I bet it would be awesome if you wanted to do that.

Sunny did you ask for the cocktail hour on the roof, I'm just curious? I am getting married on the pier and I believe we will be the first ones. When I met with Marlene she had never done one there and wanted to once I had told her I really wanted to do a pier ceremony like I had planned at another hotel. As for the cocktail hour we are having ours on the rooftop after the wedding, another thing that was new to her. The rooftop is to gorgeous, I had thought of doing the ceremony there.

Trivera I want to hear what you decide for the ceremony. I didn't other guests standing by in their bathing suits as I am having a moment during my vows and the pier gives us privacy. The beach or beach side gazebo you won't have that privacy and will have people spectating. Just look in the background of the youtube video.

I just have to say I am so glad that I found you ladies. I no longer feel alone on this process and its all real now.

Such a trend setter mbrady, LOL love it! I believe Sunny mentioned the fabulous cocktail hour on the terrace as well, what was the extra fee for it mbrady? Very good thought and observation about the privacy factor on the beach for the ceremony. Hmmmm....got me thinking LOL. We are all goign to be best friends after this DW experience. Thanks again for all your insight!

WOW! I didnt know that they had other locations for the reception. The WC I spoke to told me that the ballroom is where they had the reception. I am going to email her and inquire. I asked how much it would be to have cocktail hour and she told me the price not the locations, I guess I will also inquire. Im glad you gals are helping me with info!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
