I can't think of any AIs in nags head. I just organized a conference at a comfort inn there. I think it's their biggest hotel. I was not impressed. I would think a better option for the outerbanks would be to rent beach houses. But only certain ones can be rented for weddings. If you go in the off season it's really cheap. You can get houses for $400 per week. But that wouldn't be an AI & I don't think it can compete with Mexico. Also, there isn't an airport nearby for guest who don't want to drive. Well, there is a very small one, but I would imagine it would be expensive.

Is it a safety concern about flying? Doesn't she know driving is more dangerous?

I had to make a similar decision. I was concerned my dad wouldn't be able to fly. I had to decide if it was OK for me to plan this even if he couldn't make it. I started to plan an a wedding in the state he lives in & realized I couldn't stand the thought of planning it. I would rather have only had a courthouse wedding than plan the other wedding I was working on. But the idea of just courthouse wedding made me really sad. Then I realized I was thinking about everyone else first & needed to think about us. I couldn't imagine my dad wanting me to be so unhappy about not having the wedding I wanted. So I went forward with it. Turns out my dad is the most excited! He has a years notice to be able to fly & says he will.

I was worried other people wouldn't like the mexico plan either. So far everyone has been so positive & they are really excited about the vacation. I can't believe I almost didn't do the wedding this way because I was worried about other people. Now that I've started planning I can tell it was definitly the right decision.

Anyway, with all that being said, maybe someone can find similar alternatives in the states. I didn't find anything in florida I liked, but I didn't look that long. I found AI dude ranches in texas, but that didn't really interest me.

Maybe I'm just evil, but I would still have it in Mexico. I do like the marriage in the states idea, kind of... but I would go to Mexico. It's your wedding your dream and I'd hate for you to look back on it and want to change it. Although, you might do that either way. Ah, I am no help. Sorry.

It's so much easier to get married in the states & fly to mexico for a ceremony. You don't have to do the paperwork, bloodwork & residency requirements. So maybe you could do something really special with your FMIL at the local legal ceremony.

As I started planning, this was one time I realized I needed to think of us first. If you can plan something in the states you would also love, then that's fine. I couldn't. Every time I looked at another option, I felt sick planning it. I love that we can just fly to mexico & a hotel WC takes care of everything. I absolutely could not figure out a way to do something really beautiful in the states that is that stress free and for what we are spending in Mexico. So I felt like I owed it to us to do what we truely wanted. I was so scared & felt sick to tell everyone thinking they'd be upset. They are all thrilled & can't wait. Now I feel like I'm making everyone happy with the plan because I'm planning an awesome vacation for them.

When I was still doubting whether or not to do this, I read someones post saying that after the wedding a guest thanked them for the best vacation they have ever been on.

Do what you want!!! It's your day. I'm getting a ton of pressure from my family since I'm the youngest and my parents have both died to have my wedding here so everyone can make it. I'm torn, as we are all pretty close and I'd love to have all my family there. We are going to do the legal part here and have a symbolic wedding in Mexico, so I'm trying to think of how I can make a courthouse ceremony into something they can come to and be satisfied. Although our "wedding" in Mexico is the day we will celebrate as our anniversary. I would resent my family if I changed our dream plans to please them, so it's not worth it to me!

i appreciate all of the advice. i am just so torn. i think i may have to do the mexico thing but a small "legal" ceremony back home before hand. can you think of a way to do a tiny legal ceremony but still make it meaningful to the close family? what to do, what to do?

I would search for notaries who specialize in weddings. We found one who would do as much, or as little as we want. We only want to sign the paperwork (no vows, no ceremony, no nothing) and its $50 ... but she would do whatever you want, wherever you want (at a lake, riverside, your house, whatever). I'm sure you can find someone similar and that might be your best (and most cost-effective) option.

Wow only $50! When I was searching I could only find people who charged $500! So are you having a notery come to you instead of going to the courthouse?

She will come to our house, but we're just going to meet at the park downtown. Tom says we'll get a limo and make people wonder why we're celebrating. tee hee.

Weddings In A Flash!! - Weddings In A Flash -- Check out the Package Prices, I've already confirmed with her for April, so we've got that $50 rate!!!

You can find a notary in any city that can do the legal paper signing as far as I know. Heck, if that's the case, have a friend get their Notary license. It's only like $40 here to get one.

    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
