Me by Melia Cancun

Hi Maritza!

Which Dreams did you stay?  We are considering Dreams Riviera Cancun and it seemed fairly quiet but we were staying at the loudest hotel on the planet so anything would seem quiet in comparison!  oops.gif

We went last week - Thursday we saw Barcelo Maya and Friday we saw Dreams Riviera Cancun and then Ceiba del Mar.  It is really difficult to decide.  But I am really leaning toward Ceiba.  It is really going to come down to pricing I think.  I cannot wait to finally make a decision as I want to move past this part and continue with the rest!

I am getting married at Barcelo Maya Palace and stayed at the Colonial and the Grand Palladium last summer.  There are lots of pros and cons to all the resorts, but we finally narrowed it down to this one.  I can share some pics and answer other questions if anyone needs help making a decision.

@ Brenners.....I'm really torn now.  I selected Cancun because the airfare is reasonable and there are direct flights from the Washington, DC area.

Critieria for my ultimate DW resort:

1.  All inclusive or an option of both Eurpean and AI.

2.  Resort is no more than a 30 min drive from the airport

3.  There will be some kids in the wedding party so a resort with kid's activites or a kid's club.

4.  A resort that either has an onsite nightclub/lounge or is located within a 10 min drive of nightlife.  Most of my guest like to dance and have a good time drinking.

5.  Trying to keep a total cost for guests for air/hotel between $800-1000 per person for a minimum 4 night stay.

I really like Ceiba, but it does not have kid's activities and I'm not sure if the city that is close by has any bars/places to dance.

Barcelo looks really nice, but that is like an hour from the airport.

I really wish that Dreams Cancun could conduct a renovation to update their rooms.  I really like their wedding venue and scenery around the resort, the location (close to restaurants and clubs), it has a kid's club, and nightclub.  It just does not look updated.

I'm not sure if we are going to be able to take a site visit to Cancun by the summer.  I guess the good thing is that we are not looking to get married until Spring of 2012.

Hi Babygirl!

Ceiba has an AI and a European plan option.  They are a little more than a half hour from the airport, however, if you arrange transportation to and from the airport with vans, then the ride goes pretty quickly when you have many people together.  Ceiba doesn't have any arranged kid activities but Dreams and Barcelo do have kids areas.  Puerto Morelos doesn't have a reputation for a huge nightlife but I haven't done much research to determine if there are places to go for dancing and fun at night.  Barcelo does have a dance club and most things you want - just a longer distance from the airport.  The other nice option about Barcelo is that they have lodging for all price ranges.  Lillion at Barcelo was very sweet and helpful - we had to reschedule for a later time and I think she stayed beyond her regular hours to show us around and answer our questions.  Good luck with making your decision - I understand how difficult it is as we still haven't decided ourselves!

Hey everyone i was just married at the me by melia in cancun on 2-7-11 and it was fabulous! It is absolutely gorgeous there! There are 4 all inclusive places to eat and they serve the best food i have ever had at a hotel and i travel quite a bit!! Everyone kept raving about the food and of course the all inclusive drinks. It has a very contemporary feel and an upbeat atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any bride. :)

Brenners - PM me your email address and I will send some pics.

May 2011 - it's almost here!

babigirl - the distance from airport is not a big deal, it goes fast and in groups can be fun - most vans stock beer and drinks or will stop off on the way to pick something up.  We found it easy to grab a ride right from the airport even without transfers.

From Newark NJ for 4 nights -- those who were smart enough to book 9 months in advance got prices as low as $650pp w transfers.  Early booking is definitely the way to go.

Almost everyone paid btw $775 and 850 - although recently the airfare has been killing us so those prices are up.

Keep an eye on the barcelo site and message boards also -- they post random deals for 30-50% off.  Tonight until 8am is a late night special for the palace -- $114 pp per night.

Also, for nightlife, Playa del Carmen is only about 20 minutes away....around $20 by cab.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
