Arranging room blocks for OOTs

Recommended Posts

I've tried to arrange a room block at the Westin for our guests but they want to charge my CC $3,000 as a refundable deposit. Is this normal practice? we really like the hotel and seems reasonable for price but I don't see it fair to actually charge my CC unless we don't fill the room block by the cut off date. Any suggestions? Or should I go a different route, through a travel agent? Thanks!

I would definitely contact a TA. We had to put down minimal deposits, as TA's can negotiate better rates and better terms. The TA can secure group rates if your guests book within a certain timeframe, with a per guest or per room minimal deposit. We have locked in our rates for future bookings based on the number of initial rooms reserved ... and have 2 free rooms.

its pretty normal for a hotel to ask for a deposit to hold rooms...also a TA will probably be able to negotiate either a better deal or perks.

like i usually get better group block rates as well as other perks that they would not directly offer you (example: free site visit, no fee for recption costs)

Tammy (host) is a TA. She's about to have a baby, but if she has time available she'd be great - everyone has had nothing but good things to say about her abilities!

Also, I'm planning on staying at the Westin PV for our wedding too! We love the look of the hotel. My Dad got re-married there when I was 12. We're set up to go on a site visit there in December - can't wait!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
