So a friend of mine is planning on a cruise wedding before mine, however she said she is doing the vow renewal package on carnival since it's cheaper than the regular wedding pkg. She is getting "legally" married prior to going at the JOP i think. I was kind of shocked to hear she was doing this, but I'm curious...how is she getting away with it?

NCL wants proof that you've been married a year before you can do a renewal service. I thought about doing the same thing.

I did not know that, Allbap, thanks for sharing.

I was married while on a NCL cruise back in January 2009 and now I'm back planning our vow renewal (January 2014)... just getting a little bit of a head start.
