Second Wedding for 2013!

Well my name is Kathleen but you can call me Kathleen! I'm 27 years old. I'm a little different than most of you on here as I'm already married! My husband, Kimani, and I got married 7 years ago at JoP. We were both 20 and kind of eloped. We now have a 1 year old daughter and saving up for house. I've always wanted a real wedding but I could convince the justification of spending all that money in one day to Kimani. He believed buying a house was much more important... until one day in Augus t when my bff/cousin got married! That was the first wedding he went to as an adult. I was the MOH and he was a groomsman. He fell in love with the wedding and FINALLY agreed that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that he wouldn't want to take away from me. SO! We decided to plan a 10 year vow renewal destination wedding! Why? Because 1. After seeing ALL the members of my cousin's family (over 300+ on just our side of the family) we decided we didn't need a huge wedding for a 10 year vow renewal. Especially since I never met 80% of those blood relatives. 2. Another reason for the destination wedding is since we are planning on buying a house, we felt that it would be cheaper with a limited guest list. We're already married so it's no biggie if every single member of our families can't make it!

So I know I'm 3 years early into the planning stage but for my peace of mind I NEED to start at least making a personal checklist of what I want. I'm not married a color scheme, dress, nothing! You know how you have some idea of what you want for your wedding? I don't! I have a list of what I don't want but not what I do want...

So that's what leads me here! Thank you in advance for accepting me and my awkward situation and I hope I can get a lot of good ideas from you!

Kathleen!

I am so happy for you that your husband understands and now wants the wedding that we girls dream of !!!  My suggestion (and the way I started) was to get an idea of where you might want to have your renewal:  Mexico or Jamaica or Bahamas or...  At that point I would start stalking that portion of the thread and checking out the reviews for resorts from that location.  In those reviews you will hear the good and bad things about different resorts so you can chose one that works for you.  ALSO, from those reviews you will see a lot of pictures that will help you decide what you like for your colors, dress, flowers, and theme.  You have so much time, that I would just stalk your chosen part of the thread and copy and paste your favorite pictures into word files which will be your inspiration boards.  You will notice a theme in the pictures you have chosen as your favorites and will be able to start planning from there.  I would think that 18 months out is the earliest that you would want to start talking to a travel agent about reserving your resort, so take your time and pick the perfect place for you and your family!

Hola,

Welcome to the forum and above all, congratulations for your 10 year vow renewal destination wedding!

Have you thought of the Riviera Maya? One of the best things about Riviera Maya is the fact that you can get everything you dream, and it goes from the simplest things, up to the most elaborated... I am certain that you would love it.

To check out various resorts, a good place to go is the hotel review section on tripadvisor.com and the venue reviews here.  TA will not offer many wedding reviews, but the list is probably more extensive and you can come back here to learn more about wedding experiences. I would suggest using both resources.

Your 10 year vow renewal destination wedding is going to be full of magic and this website will help you a lot!

We wish you the best.

Happy planning.

Kathleen,

Congratulations on the "Dream Wedding" your fiance now wishes for you to have. I think that is awesome. I'm not married yet, but we do already have a nearly 2 year old and we were tempted to go to the JOP while I was early in my pregnancy, but I wanted to have a "wedding" and finances kept us from doing that for the past couple of years. We finally up and decided to do a cruise wedding with much thought and research. Originally we were going to go to Mexico, but with kids...it seems easier to do a cruise, especially with carnival where their kids club takes kids as young as 2 so me and husband to be could have some "us" time as well. We also don't have a ton of people we are inviting..probably 50 max, but I would said only about 50 percent may actually take the cruise itself. So cost for cruise and wedding with a 1.5 hr reception on ship is way cheaper than doing something at home for us and a lot less stressful. Plus, this way includes a vacation/honeymoon eventhough we will have friends on ship with us. Best of both worlds. If I could afford it..I would get married at Beaches Turks and Caicos, but it's way out of our budget and our friends/family budget...but that is my dream vacation that we will save for the year after the wedding. hehehee

Welcome to the board.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
