Don't know where to start!?

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and am clueless and a little nervous to start planning.

My fiance and I want to get married October 14th 2011 and we are looking at the Barcelo Maya Palace or Bahia Principe Coba/Akumal/Tulum. I find the package info vague and un-informative. We have not committed to anything yet but apparently coordinators won't get back to you until you do?

My concerns:

Location of ceremony: apparently it is not guaranteed you will get beach side? This scares me as that is what I want!

Photographer: I want to hire outside the resort but I have heard this poses a large problem!

Reception: How does the cost work, is it per person (with a minimum charge) all it says is a minimum usually of 15-20, what if there were 30 or 40? Does the cost jump then?

Any info regarding these locations would be helpful... I am sooo nervous to commit to a DW! I think its what we want but not if the cost is more than getting married at home with a larger reception.

Hi Tracey, welcome to the forum and congrats on your engagement. Have you tried checking out the threads with Barcelo or Bahia brides. They may be able to answer your questions and get you in the right direction. I find it strange that the wedding coordinators won't get back to you unless you commit. How are you supposed to commit if they won't even return your correspondence. Either way I am sure you'll find lots of help on the boards and get it all sorted out. Good luck and happy planning!

Congratulations and welcome to the forums! We have shot the Barcelo many times and love the location! There are multiple beach side locations... and a wonderful Gazebo. They are all fantastic and you can't go wrong. We have lots of pictures so please have a look and let us know if you have any questions. The Barcelo has also eased up on the outside vendor policy as of late. Just make sure to save you emails and there should not be a problem.

Best of luck and have fun planning!

Welcome to the forum! We haven't had any problem at all shooting at Barcelo, in fact it is our FAVORITE Riveria Maya resort. The photographer just needs to stay two night so it is no problem at all. It is SO beautiful there! I would read all through the Barcelo post as I know girls have posted all the menu and package info on their. Be prepared for "Mexico time" getting back to you. All of our bride's complain about the length of time it take coordinators to get back to you.

Good luck with all of your plans!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
