bride forced to have a bridal shower

I'm totally not into bridal showers, ugh!

But our families are asking us to register because they want to throw us (me, rather) a bridal shower. And I'm not even sure what to register for? there's really nothing we need, because we've lived together for 6 years, and have stocked up on everything you possibly imagine for our home.

I've heard that couples now a days are registering for travel and honeymoons... which I think would be ideal! BUT my fiance feels that we should be paying for our own honeymoon and not aunt Rosie and uncle Bill... etc. etc.

I just don't know what to do.... I don't see the point in registering for stuff we don't need or stuff that is going to sit in the china cabinet collecting dust. The only thing we could use right now is a new couch, but I can't register for that... I would never hear the end of it!

does anyone had any suggestions?

I'm also not thrilled with the idea of opening gift at my bridal shower... I just find it silly to be surrounded with family and friends and have them sit and watch open gifts when we could be doing something much more fun!

My friends know how much I despise bridal showers so they know not to throw me one, but it's mostly my FI's family that insists in having one... I don't know how to let them know that would much rather skip the 'opening of  the presents' part and just have a cocktail party wih music and watch everyone have a good time instead.

Sounds like my life!!  I hate bridal showers too, they are SO boring and pointless in my opinion.  I was almost forced into having one by my mom & cousin but luckily got out of it.

We did a small registry on Crate & Barrel with some things we needed (Some people really wanted to give us "physical" gifts).  You might want to look into it online, there are cool things you might not "need" but maybe a few things you want.

We also did a honeymoon registry on honeymoonwishes.com.  I love the honeymoon registry because it's basically just money.  We signed up for the things were were planning on doing during the honeymoon. You assign your own monetary value to it.  Then whenever you want, you can receive a pay out.  They can mail a check to you or can deposit it into your bank account.  I think it's a great idea!

Hope everything works out!

At first, I didn't want a bridal shower either.. I honestly don't know anyone who actually enjoys going to them... So I just know everyone would be bored out of their minds.. LOL..

But since we are having a DW and my family will not be able to attend, I figured this is a compromise.. My sister loves planning parties and she promises me that it won't be boring or stuffy.. Plus, it is a great way to get some of the things you need for your new life.. :)

I didn't want one either. figured we've lived together for 8 years now, we don't need anything.  My MOH said she's giving me one - ok ... do I have to come LOL (Yes - I actually asked HAHA). She decided she will do a 'wishing well' for me (something along the money tree). I know asking for $ is tacky, but that would help us in getting the dyson vacuum or new tv. So I went along with it, and now I'm actually excited.  She's doing beach theme, so no silly bridal games... we'll have games like hoola hoop (who can do it longest and similar. No dress making out of toilet paper, no gift opening and silly ribbon hats...otherwise I'm not coming LOL (bridezilla or what LOL)

I don't care either way, but my sister/MOH is throwing one for me. I think it's a way for people who can't come to feel like they're involved, and it's cool by me. The only thing I wanted was a toaster oven, but my mom freaks out when I ask, lol. I don't need anything really but the toaster oven. Unfortunately, I may get a lot of lingerie, and I don't care too much about that. Oh well, lol. I'll make the most of the day!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
