Has anyone heard of Hummingbird Hall in Montego Bay?

Hey Everyone,

I just signed the contract for HH for 5/24/14!  I am a little weary, though, that they only take the deposit by wire transfer and do not accept credit cards.  Did anyone else feel the same way and how was the experience?  Other than this, the venue is spectacular and all of my interaction with the employees has been excellent.

Thanks,

Kat

Hey All,

Full disclosure, my name is Michelle and I work at Hummingbird Hall :)

We actually just found this thread by way of a trusty Google Alert. It's great to know there's a place where our brides and grooms can hang out!

I just thought I would answer the last post, to prevent incorrect information spreading.

If clients book with travel agents they can pay their travel agent using a credit card, and then the travel agents go ahead and pay us via wire. Clients who go down this route can expect to pay an additional 15% on the base cost of their wedding, due to the commission travel agent's charge and credit card processing fees. I would say 3-5% of our clients go down this route.

Alternatively, if clients want to enjoy the lower fees of booking direct we do not accept credit cards from due to the high processing fees that credit cards charge (5-10%).

We make the choice (credit card vs wire) known to clients when they book with us, as well as in our T+Cs and FAQs.

Ultimately, even though we love hosting weddings (and thank everyone for their support); we appreciate how stressful planning a destination wedding is and really want our clients to feel comfortable and secure. For those weary of paying by wire, we definitely recommend the travel agent route – it's more expensive, but peace of mind is priceless as they say!

Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions. Happy planning wherever you are getting married.

Warmly,

Michelle

Hey!!

Yes, I can totally relate. I was petrified, especially after watching programs about Jamaica and scamming. To make matters worse, when I went into my bank to do the wire I was asked about a zillion times whether I knew the people personally and why I was sending such a large amount, and was I sure because once the money was gone it was gone! It definitely terrified us but we took it upon ourselves to do our own research. I called up their bank myself and asked general questions. Over there I think their privacy laws are not as strict as here, because I was able to get a lot of info about the company. I also sent the money in two goes – first to see how quickly they acknowledged it and then once i'd got confirmation it was received, i sent the next amount. It cost me an extra wire fee. In the end we got a notification from them that the money was there the next business day. So far so good with the venue, I'm happy we took the riskbecause honestly, i couldn't envision marrying anywhere else, but I definitely feel your stress. It's nice to meet another HH 2014 bride btw :) congratulations!!

Hi CaribbeanBelle!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience!  We are staying at the Iberostar Rose Hall Grand and I think most of our guests will either stay there or at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites.  We had a travel agent book us a block of rooms at both.

As far as vendors, I'm just gathering quotes from videographers/photographers.  We LOVE Elite Media Concepts work, but the price is steep so we also checked out Epic Weddings but only saw one example.  Their price is very reasonable, though.  Still working through all those details.  Haven't even starting thinking about hair/makeup vendors yet....one step at a time :)

Congrats to you too!

Elite Media Concepts ARE amazing, but unfortunately not in our budget...though I guess I've got a year + to persuade Mr Man!!

We're debating between Hilton and Iberostar Suites. Tons will depend on the composition of the guests who RSVP (Hilton's apparently better for kids). I'm DYING to send out official invitations, but i guess 517 days is a bit far out... not that i'm counting cheesy.gif

Hey ladies, We just got back from Jamaica and doing a site visit/ menu/cake tasting at Hummingbird Hall. It's a lovely place and we decided to go ahead and book based on what we experienced. If anyone has any questions about the venue I'd be happy to answer them as best i can. Otherwise I look forward to being part of this community! Are there any brides from London here?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
