Turks and Caicos

Recommended Posts

First of all...oh boy... I feel so far behind after reading a lot of these messages!

I've been reading for a few days but just joined, gotta start somewhere!

We are planning to get married late May 2011 and would love it to be at Beaches Turks and Caicos. I thought with it being 8 months away but now I'm not so sure about that and I don't even know where to start!

Where did everyone find their TA's?

After looking at the Beaches site we've decided what we want and what room we want and it surprised me that I didn't get sticker shock from the prices for us. My concern is how our families and close friends will react... did anyone get negative feedback for your decision or did people just say "Sorry, can't make it"?   I think that is my biggest concern right now.

I have a ton of questions but don't want to fire them all out in my first post!

Oh, I'm Kim by the way. Thank you all for providing such helpful information, it really helps!!

Hi Kim,

Welcome to the forum! I'm getting married at Beaches Turks & Caicos in March 2011, and I was SO glad when I found this site earlier this summer. I didn't use a travel agent, but some other girls on the forum did so they can probably help you there.

As far as how did friends and family react about the prices...hmmm..first let me say everyone's reaction was different, but I did get some positive feedback because I gave everyone 13 month notice, and they were thankful for that. Originally 21 people planned to join us in Turks, but once I told them I was having a reception a few weeks after we returned from the wedding, the number has dwindled down to 10 people coming to Turks.

I hope that answers one of your questions.

Welcome, Kim!  My name is Lauren, and I am getting married at Beaches Turks & Caicos on May 21, 2011.  The best advice I can give is to book your wedding/reservation as soon as you've decided on a location and date, as wedding dates and times book very quickly at Beaches T&C!

I am using a TA that my friend recommended, and I am soo glad we have her to guide us!!!  She is pretty much the "middle man" between us and the wedding coordinator (and I heard the wedding coordinators that you deal with prior to arriving are not really wedding coordinators, but more "sales" people).

Alot of the people we invited will not be able to go to the wedding, which is perfectly fine with us!  The main reason we decided to do a DW is b/c we wanted something simple and small.  And I personally think that if you give people enough notice, the most who truly want to be there will find a way to be there!  But, I think DW brides have to understand that it's nearly impossible for ALL of the people you invite to go!

I'm still kind of in the beginning stages of planning everything (although there isn't too much to plan!), but please let me know if you have any questions!  I have literally read everything on the Sandals/Beaches website!   wink.gif

Hi Kim!

We're getting married @ Beaches T&C July 29, 2011.  It's just going to be the 2 of us, so I don't have to deal with sticker shock from any guests.

I am using Jennifer with Sand n Sun vacations for a TA.  She is active on this forum and very knowledgable, helpful, and nice!  She communicates with the wedding coordinator for you (if you choose) and eliminates the headache of doing that.  I highly recommend her!

Happy planning!

Thanks everyone for the replies and the warm welcome!

Had a conversation with my mother and sister last night and both are unhappy with my choice... I knew this would happen. They said itâ€s just too expensive for them. I know my future in-laws would go no matter what so now I have to decide if Iâ€d rather have my family there or have my ultimate dream location.. sad.gif

I thought this was supposed to be fun??!

It will be fun (as soon as you get pass this part!). Although it is easier said than done, try not to fret. I truly felt just like you toward the beginning. It seems like my fiance's entire family was on board, and only my parents were. Funny how things happen though...because as of right now my family is WAY more excited than his! His parents haven't even booked yet and the wedding is 5 months away.

Welcome:)  It IS fun...you just have to decide what's more important to you guys: A.  having all of your friends/family there and pleasing them or B. having the wedding you two want and deciding to let other's opinions roll off of your back.  I totally sympathize with you though.  We went through the same thing (only with his family) and finally decided to elope just the two of us.  Whatever you decide though will be gorgeous.  Just remember that we've all been there and are here for support/venting:)

The same thing happened to me, too.  When I told my mom that we wanted to get married at Beaches Turks & Caicos, she said "We can't afford to go, hope you have fun"....  After both our families realized that we were NOT changing our minds and we actually booked the wedding and honeymoon, they changed their minds, and now all of our immediate family members will be going.  I think once they realize that this is what you really want, they'll be onboard with the idea.  I hope everything works out!!

Hi Kim!

so much to tell you! well we booked our wedding in January for May 2010 and it was very short notice. My family was on board but his was not and thats putting it very nicely. We ended up having 12 guests join us in turks and they stayed at a different resort for about 4-6 nights, their trips were ~800 per person incluiding air. By doing that i paid for their day passes for the day of the wedding (150 each) and they spent all day and night at beaches for the ceremony, helped me get ready etc. that being said...... HIs family was not thrilled and were embarrassed etc. so what we did....

We had a small church ceremony at home, our immediate family only and the girls who threw my shower (20 people) and all went to dinner afterwards. We made it legal by doing that.  A week later we went to Turks and Caicos for our dream wedding. My mother was not in turks with us which was sad but she got to see me get married before we went and i got to share that with her! I can tell you all about how everything worked if you like, just let me know! good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
