Ceremony and Reception Music

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I hope you can help me with something!  We are getting married at the Grande St. Lucian July 15, 2011.  We are having our ceremony on the beach, and then we are planning to have the full 3 hour reception with dinner.

My question is, what did you do about music?  We thought it would be neat to have the steel drum band for one hour, so they would play for the ceremony walks and for our guests while we are taking pictures.  Has anyone purchased the steel drum band?  Could you tell them what songs you wanted?

We are thinking about using a DJ for the rest of the time.  Has anyone used a DJ provided by Sandals, and how did that go?  Do you get to pick the songs?  When would you plan with them?

Ahhhhh...so many unanswered questions about this!  I hope someone can help!  I've searched the forums and have not found the exact answers I am looking for.

Thanks for any info!

I did not personally, but heard others who did and they said it was the best money they spent.  We brought our own cd's that we made (and made copies and put in our OOT bags).  I wish I would have splurged on the steel drum band, but it just wasn't in the budget. I have also heard that the dj's have a very limited list of songs and talked to one bride who said it was her biggest waste of money.  Hope this helps some.

That helps!  I am now leaning toward just the steel drum band.  We will not have as many people as I originally thought, so the DJ will not really be necessary.  I think we are going to just take our IPod.  I'm still curious to hear from anyone who has used the DJ though...

I 've been told the same thing about the steel drum band. I also have been told that the dj is very good and has lots of music and if you are concerned with his selection you can contact the WC and she will email you a list. Or you can email them a list of music you would like and they will get it.

We are also concerned about the music.  We are having a guitarist for the ceremony and DJ for the 3 hour reception.  I asked my WC for sample list and she told me I have to provide a list and he/she will play all of it.  She said the guitarist will learn any song he doesn't know - which makes me nervous.  As for the DJ, we are planning to make a huge list for the DJ.  Since the WC will not provide me with a sample song list, I feel like I have to do the research so that it all goes well.  Any feedback from other brides would be extremely helpful.

I know a lot of bride/grooms that make their own list now, even for traditional weddings.  I have been to some weddings with just awful music and I prefer it when the brides/grooms make it what they like.  I know it takes some time but it is well worth actually likeing what you are listening to on that day.  There are some really great sites on the internet you can find by googling to help you too.  We made our own list and cd's for the occasion and everyone loved it.  We also made copies and put it in the welcome kits for everyone.  They are still telling me that they listen to them all of the time!

If you need assistance in choosing music go to projectwedding.com > ideas > wedding songs.  They have TONS of songs and they are all ideas from other brides and they break them down for like 1st dance, procession, father/daughter, bridal entrance, garter toss, etc.

At this time I am still going w/ 30min reception so I am having the lone steel drummer as he is MUCH more affordable than the whole steel drum band.  For 3hr reception I would think you would definitely want the whole band for entertainment purposes as well as the DJ.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
