I found "The Dress" & DIDN'T buy it. Now I have a 'nice' dress & regret buying it. What Should I do?

Hi Ladies

So, A while back I spent weeks trying to find the perfect dress. I trawled through the shops until, finally, I cried over a dress. I knew this was 'the one' and I was thrilled. Only thing was....It was COMPLETELY over budget! So I put off ordering it for a few months.

Then, I planned a dress-trying day with my family/girlfriends to show them this dress & confirm what I already knew, that it was 'the one'. So the day before said trip, I decide to go to this other store to have a look at these dresses I have always wanted to see. I knew I wouldn't find anything as nice as 'my dress' but I wanted to look anyway. Low & behold one particular dress stood out & I made the mistake of trying it on. It was beautiful...but no tears! I really liked it but knew my dress was nicer. The woman in the shop then tells me she is putting this dress on sale soon & if I was interested, she would give it to me at the sale price-which, by the way, is one third the price of my dream dress.

Between one thing and another, I rush-bought the sale dress  because of several reasons: 1- it was much cheaper than dream dress. 2- The material was not as heavy and the train was shorter (good for beach). 3- the materials would not damage as easily as the dream dress on the beach, as I am having an AHR the week after we get back, this was important.

All these things aside....It is not my dream dress & every day I think about the dress I wanted, I almost cry. I know the dream dress was probably not feasible for the type of wedding we are having...but I wanted it none the less. :(

I am now considering buying the dream dress now as well as the one I have at home. Am I making a mistake?

Both dresses are gorgeous.  Here's a suggestion:  you already have one dress bought.  Have you considered having a knockoff made of your dream dress?  You get to pick the fabric they make it out of and therefore could choose a lighter weight fabric as that was one of your issues and it would probably cost you $200 or less.  You've already tried your dream dress on so you know you love it.  If it doesn't turn out to be everything you want, you can always use it for Trash the dress photos.  Just a thought.

ps those dresses are very similar in style and I happen to think the one you bought is gorgeous.

Aw thanks everyone! U know, I actually think the dress I have is a nicer dress.... It just doesn't feel the same. I know it's going to be better for me all round on the day, I just wish I felt happier about it. But u guys have cheered me up & gave me some confidence.

Ginger, I love your idea! Thank you! I think I will find out how much I could get a knock off done for.

Im with the others here dress 1 is so much better than the dress that is still speaking to you.I wouldnt even think of going the knock off route it wont be the same as the dress you tried be honest with yourself it CANT BE.

I tried lots of dresses in my search and did try on couture dresses and yes one still stands out as feeling wonderful on but you add the heat the sand and everyting else that goes with a destination wedding and you will be stunning in the dress you own and being very frank and honest the best you can hope for on your return is that it cleans up nicly you sell it or you package it away to bring out in years to come in the hope that a daughter will fall in love with it and decide to wear it.The reality is more like you get it frm the roof your daughter screws her face up tells you she wouldnt be seen dead in it cos i know thats how i felt when my mum bought her dress down.

Yes you get to wear it again and you already know the dress you have will hold up much better.

Just a tip i found out that wedding dresses get laundered (washed) when you send them away.

My dress got a little marked on the bottom from me walking through some beer when i took it off i ran the shower head onto the stain and it came out

Post a piccie of yourself in the dress im sure you will look a million dollors xx

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
