Bridesmaid Horror Story

My niece is in a wedding for her best friend tomorrow.  We were over at the house last night for a family birthday dinner and asked to see her dress.  Little did I know the can of worms I was opening!  Apparently there had been some major drama all day about the dress because it all of a sudden doesn't fit!

She hadn't tried the dress on until that morning since ordering it and it didn't fit! She had spent the day buying various undergarments trying to get everything sucked in better to get this dress on. Ladies, you all know what I am talking about! Unfortunately, nothing was working.  It's a very pretty dress but she is a rather busty girl that has put on some serious weight in the last year and the zipper was a good 2 inches from closing. My idea was to get a corset and lace it up really tight. Off she went to the mall with the dress to visit Fredrick's of Hollywood. Didn't work. She called crying while we were eating dinner. She came home and we started looking at the dress. It is lined, so there is some extra fabric, but nobody in the family is a good enough seamstress to deal with that kind of alteration. Off she went again to a family friend that is a great seamstress, but she came home quickly when that friend didn't think she could do anything.

Next idea was some water pills. Aunt Flo is visiting this week, so maybe that could be part of the problem, right? So we all leave to go home and she follows my Mom to her house and gets a pretty heavy duty water pill. No miracles over night happen.

The bride has been told what is going on and she just told her to go find another dress, didn't matter what it looked like. My daughter is just feeling awful for her cousin and even offered the dress she got for a wedding she has to attend in a few weeks. This dress would actually work well as it's a similar style, but I honestly don't think it would have fit her anyway. Well, my niece didn't like this option either.

So, what is she doing? I have no idea at this point. All I know is that she left for Flagstaff with the wedding party this morning. What she is going to do about the dress is anybodies guess at this point. I have a feeling it is going to be dumped on the bride's mother's lap to deal with.

Good news!  She actually got the dress zipped up in time for the wedding.  Not sure what she did to get it there, could have just been Aunt Flo after all.  Everyone was worried that she might bust out, but everything held together long enough.  She did admit to being very uncomfortable thru the entire wedding though.

Lesson learned the hard way, but at least it all worked out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
