My "not on a holiday" Christmas Eve proposal! :)

Recommended Posts

My fiance proposed on December 24, 2009...and boy was I surprised!  He had told me early on in our relationship that when he proposed, it would NOT be on a holiday - he wanted it to be a day that was just for us and a day that I would not be expecting it.  Fast forward to Christmas Eve of 2009...

We wwork night shift, and had gotten up early because we were having all of my family over for dinner. Unbeknownst to me, Jed was preparing for his proposal while I was in the shower. When I got out of the shower, I threw on my robe and heard Jed say "hey, will you come in here for a minute?". I walked into our bedroom to find Jed down on one knee!  He was in a dress shirt and tie, and had "our" song playing in the background. On our bed sat the ring, and he had "Will You Marry Me" spelled out on the bed with my favorite truffles.  I started crying before he ever spoke a word!  He gave a short but very sweet and sincere proposal speech, and I couldn't wait to say yes!  I was so busy crying, I didn't even realize that the truffles spelled out "Will you marry me" until he showed me the pictures afterward. :)   LOL

Once I finally calmed down, I asked him what happened to the whole notion of "not on a holiday". It turned out that it just worked out that he found the right diamond a little over a week before Christmas, and he asked how fast they could have it mounted into the setting and they told him it would be ready by the 22nd or 23rd. He went to pick it up on the 23rd, and they told him it wouldn't be ready until the 24th. He considered waiting until after Christmas, but decided he couldn't wait that long - and besides, "Christmas Eve isn't officially a holiday!"...lol. I was so surprised by it all but I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was that day!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
