My FI mother would like use to register for gifts becasue a lot of their family is not joining us in the DR.  We feel a little awkward about having a registry do to our decision of having a destination wedding. Does anyone have any suggestions on who we should we word it on our wedding website without sounding greedy?

Hi ladies... I am turned between PPC and the HardRock Hotel and Casino. My FI left it up to me too pick even though it was him who came up the destination wedding idea. After checking out several hotels I narrowed it down to those two. There will be between 20 to 40 guest pls children's. My wedding date is July 12th. Am open to any suggestions.

Hi Samilynn,

As I was considering my choices, I also had narrowed it down to those two hotels. My deciding factor was that i have already stayed at the Hard Rock in the states and although they're not totally the same i feel like the Hard Rock has more of that American feel to it where as the PPC has more of an 'island' feel to it that feels more natural and relaxing for a getaway. Not sure if I could explain it right. But I think it all depends what you're looking for. Hard Rock seems more luxe and elaborate and i also heard the property is huge. PPC is a little more private, simple & relaxing but they still carter great service to you and the property is amazing. I dont think you could go wrong either way they're both top of the line!

I got married at PPC in Nov 2012.  I would agree with Mariel12.  Hard Rock is def more of an "American" feel to it; def more luxe and can be a bit pricier.  I would also say it may cater more to adults.  PPC has more of an island feel to it, and its more picturesque with lush trees, gardens, greenery etc. if you're looking to do outdoor pics versus Hard Rock will be more picturesque for indoor pics. They're both excellent quality resorts.  You have to figure out what type of "feel" you want for your big day and the entirety of your and your guests stay.

Hi Ladies!

First and foremost this forum has helped me sooo much when it came to picking where I wanted to get married! Ive officially booked my date for March 14, 2014. Im so nervous about everything, I just want to make sure everything is perfect. Im hopefully having no more than 100 people.  Im mostly worried about the DJ. My family LOVES  to party so im debating how good the DJ is, or if I should find one here in NY and fly him down with me. Any suggestions?

Anyone have a civil (legal) religious ceremony (not-Catholic)?

We probably won't have the 1 available Justice of the Peace travel to our venue and perform the legal ceremony there. Heard too many issues with it.

I read that religious weddings are legal, you just have to go register your marriage afterwards.

Do you have to get certificates beforehand?

Have your pastor sign the papers?

Do you have to use a local pastor? PPC charges $500 to supply a local pastor.

If we went to the local JOP office the day before or after the "wedding" do you know what the words are they say? Is "I Do" included? I searched online and can't find it anywhere.

Hi! So I have been trying to pick a photography package. We ended up going with Joaquin from Arrecife (who came highly recommended by our wedding planner), and also to avoid the $1000 outside provider fee. I have been going back and forth about whether or not to go the extra mile and pay for video, since I know photography and videography are not the areas to cut corners in. Also, I am really considering the TTD session. Many of the pictures I have seen are beautiful, but I am wondering how badly the dress is effected? Has anyone had a TTD the session or know someone who has that can comment on what happened to the dress? Does the dress material make a difference? Thank you!

My advice is don't skimp on the video; it's nice to go back to it from time to time and play it, and also a nice way to share your big day with those who weren't able to attend your destination wedding.  My husband and I decided to do photography, videography, a 5 min wedding highlights video - that's what we shared with several friends and family versus playing them a 2 hr wedding video lol, AND a TTD shoot.  The TTD shoot was a last minute decision a few days before we flew out.  I figured hey, I'm getting married on a beautiful beach why the heck not!   But...I really didn't want to ruin my dress (although many girls say it's fine if u just rinse it in water...but I couldnt fathom taking a chance to ruin my gorgeous dress).  So I went to a Davids Bridal store and found a very pretty dress that was more "beachy" than my actual wedding gown.  It was only $99, it was too long on me but I didnt care b/c it was only for beach pics anyway.  The best part about it was I got 2 very different looks for the wedding pics - the more "formal" pics from the wedding day with him in his suit and me in my gown and our friends, family, and wedding party, and then we had our own TTD shoot which was much more laid back and casual - him in just linen pants and a white shirt, barefoot on the beach, and me in the Davids Bridal beachy dress.  An added bonus was that we had way more fun during the TTD shoot.  The wedding day pics were like, "stand here, look there, kiss this way, while everyone looks on".  LOL.  The TTD pics were just us having FUN at a secluded beach and they're so romantic and more intimate.   Save the extra $ if you can...it'll be worth it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
