We did get our hair done at the spa. I had thought about using the bridal suite to get ready as well, but I didn't think it was worth the extra money. The spa only had three stylists so myself and 2 of my bridesmaids went at 10 am for hair and makeup ($110). My 2 other bridesmaids and mom went at 1130.  Just hair and no makeup cost $85.  Everyone loved their hair and makeup except my mom re-did her makeup as it was pretty heavy for her.

Our photographer was Phil Steinguard and he was excellent! He had our entire day planned out from 10am until 10 pm.  He met the guys around 10 30am and started doing pictures with just them. Then at 12pm he met myself and my bridesmaids in my room for our pictures. Then at about 130pm the entire bridal party met in the lobby for pictures. I was unsure about seeing my fiancé before the actual wedding, but it actually worked out okay. Phil set it up so that when we saw each other for the first time it was all captured in pictures. It turned out to be very emotional for everyone! Then at about 330pm the girls and guys separated again to freshen up for our 4 pm ceremony. We then took family photos and more bridal party photos on the beach from about 530 to 645pm. Then we went to freshen up again before the 7 pm reception. It was ALOT of pictures!! It will be worth it though, from what we saw, so far they look amazing!
His cost included a 12 hour day, every image taken on a CD, all editing and a trash the dress session a couple of days after the wedding. We did not have to pay for his travel or accommodations because he is affiliated with the Magestic Elegance. We did however have to pay $120 to the resort for an outside photographer fee.

Tomkins,

My daughter's hair and makeup were included as part of the wedding package, but I paid $85 each for the bridesmaid and maid of honor. All three were started at 1:30 but the bride's wasn't done until almost 4. A guest did my daughter's makeup, but the other girls did their own.

Maridr2012, if you go with the spa, make it early so you have time to get makeup and get dressed. There are only 3 stylists, so book the appointments as early as you can.The spa is over near the Gazebo, but the Reserve is on the other side when you get dressed. Then you have to ride back to the Gazebo for the ceremony. We were late, so Elizabeth was driving very fast, everyone on foot was looking, and I was on the back holding on real tight!!

I believe that they usually upgrade the bride and groom to the Reserve, and they are fabulous suites with a jacuzzi bathtub, a living room, dining area and kitchen. There is also a large closet to hang your dress. My daughter brought hers from NYC, to upstate, to JFK and to Punta Cana and hung it in the closet. It looked perfect for the wedding, and didn't even need to be steamed..

Ladies after reading the posts about the new policy on outside photographers I emailed Paradisus and got the following response :

Hi Janine –

Allow me to quickly introduce myself…my name is Marilyn and I am the Romance Desk Manager for Paradisus Resorts.  I received your email from Cemone and would like to offer the following clarification, with regard to Paradisus Punta Canaâ€s new policy/fee for outside photographers/videographers.

·         Effective new weddings booked at Paradisus Punta Cana, in 2012 & onwards, any photographer/videographer company wishing to capture pictures/video of a wedding at Paradisus Punta Cana, will incur a fee of $1,000 and this fee is paid by the company, not the client.

·         The client is only responsible for paying the day pass fee ($120 per crew member).

·         However, these fees do not apply when using the resortâ€s exclusive photographer/videographer company – Arrecife.

·         For weddings booked at Paradisus Punta Cana in 2010 & 2011, such as the case with your wedding, the fee for an outside photographer/videographer remains as $120 (per crew member), paid by the client.  The outside company will not incur any additional fees…as the wedding was booked prior to the new policy taking effect.

I can certainly appreciate the level of concern this new policy may have caused on your part and truly apologize for any inconvenience or discontent experienced in this regard.  Unfortunately, there has been some misinformation shared with our clients, by outside sources, which has been disseminated via email and on blogs and has raised concern with many of our valued brides.  Rest assured, Paradisus Punta Cana is diligently working to clarify the new policy, in order to avoid any negative feedback.

More importantly, congratulations to you and Vincent and we thank you for allowing Paradisus to be part of your special day!

Kind regards,

Marilyn Cairo

WOW!!!  I guess we wont be having our 2013 wedding there. I am not in the least bit interested in Arrecife Photography and theres no way any other vendor will incur a $1000 fee to shoot your wedding without adding that to your package!! This is just insane and I am sure they will loose a ton of business over this "new policy". Just outrageous!!!

It really is too bad that they are doing this ridiculous $1,000 upcharge to non-preferred vendors.  Of course the vendors are going to upcharge the couples because of this!  Paradisus was my favorite of all the resorts I visited when doing wedding site inspections.  Melia is also owned by the same company, and their property is also beautiful.  I'd suggest to all of you who writing off PPC to look into a policy change at Melia as well and see if it applies there too. If they don't have the same policy, you may want to consider them.  Best of luck!

Ladies this poicy totally sucks! They wont allow you to use any outside vendors without incurring this charge! Just **^%$ outrageous.  I will also tell you that I just received the below confirmation from my second venue choice that they two have the same policy in effect...Melia Caribe wrote:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
