I totally agree, but he feels strongly about NOT going to Mexico, so I don't want to force the issue. If it were just a vacation, I might push it, but I don't want any negativity on our wedding moon. I would rather find a place we can agree upon. I have been to Jamaica (with my 1st husband) and loved it, but we also want to go somewhere that is new to both of us. St. Lucia looks beautiful and we were planning to go to a Sandals resort because they seem to have the "wedding moon" thing down to a science. We also live in suburb of a high crime city (Reading, PA), so I think he just wanted to escape all that, as much as possible. I'm not heartbroken about it ~ St. Lucia sounds great!

Aruba is also beautiful and one of the safest islands statistically, but again I was there with my ex.

Good luck with your planning!

I have to say my cousin had a destination wedding in St. Lucia (July 2008) and it was beautiful!!!! Her wedding is why me and my FI are having a destination wedding!

You will not be disappointed in choosing St. Lucia! Her ceremony was on a cliff overlooking the ocean (breathtaking views) and her reception was at a restaurant also located right on the water. Did I mention she pulled up to the ceremony in a horse and carriage and her and her (now husband) arrived to the reception on a boat!! It was the best wedding I have ever been too!!

(The wedding group took a boat trip to the other side of the island and we got to see the volcano's and walk through the tropical rain forrest. The island people were so nice and true to their word.)

Sorry for going on and on I just had to share my wonderful experience there!!

Good Luck!!

I'm not sure if you're still following this link, but I recommend that you look at the requirements to get married in both.  Mexico has more requirements and now requires blood testing there prior to marriage.  Also, Jamaica is no more dangerous than Mexico.  In both places you have to use common sense.  We were married at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios and we loved it.  After researching for close to a year and a half we chose Sandals due to the reviews of weddings and honestly, they just get it.  Everything was beautiful and it is amazing that here in the states we put so much time and energy into planning something, and there it just seemed to happen.  Let us know what you pick!

We're getting married at the Grande in St. Lucia and are so excited.  I chose Sandals, because I basically just want to show up and get married.  I'm not one for making a lot of decisions.  You can also choose to have a wedding at Pigeon Island National Park, which is right beside the Grande...this would just take some extra cost/planning on your part.  There are also other resorts on the southern end of St. Lucia, like Anse Chastanet  that offer incredible views for a ceremony.

As for crime in Jamaica and Mexico, I cannot speak about Mexico, but I've been to Jamaica and loved every minute.  The touristy resort parts are absolutely safe.  You can even venture outside those areas and still be safe.  As with all places (even in the US), you just have to know which parts to stay out of (and it's pretty obvious).  I volunteered and stayed in Kingston, which is not touristy at all, and I never felt like I wasn't safe.  It really is a beautiful island with a lot of soul.  AND it's a lot cheaper than St. Lucia....if that matters to you.  And, if you don't feel like going with Sandals, I found a little hidden gem while doing some research...Moon Dance Villas...I wanted to get married there, but it was a bit too expensive for a whole wedding group...being just the two of you, it might be just right.

Good luck choosing a resort...this really is the hardest part, and everything will be a breeze after you decide!

I am so in love with The Royal Playa Del Carmen in Mexico.  It is absolutely breathtaking and so far they have been so responsive to everything Iâ€ve asked for.  We did a site visit back in Sep. 2010 and it felt like there was no way to take a bad picture…it is SO, SO gorgeous!!!  Go to Mexico!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
