Horrible experience with mauiweddingplanner

We hired JJ/Sheryl and Michael in the fall for a spring wedding 2010. I told her we were going to use Paypal for our deposit and she would have the deposit the same day we spoke. I waited for 5 days before calling JJ to find out why I had not received my confirmation from her. She informed me I should have called her sooner and that we could have lost our weekend sunset wedding since we were not on her schedule. This seemed to be my fault for some reason. I was shocked and very put back with this. She was rude to me for the first of all of my exchanges with her. I wish I could have cancelled my deposit after speaking with her for the first time. She is unreliable and unprofessional. I thought maybe she was under a lot of stress and things would change the closer we came to our wedding but it did not it only became worse. The closer we came to our wedding date I had only a few questions in regards to the beach and permits. I had to have our programs for the wedding printed and need some information from her. I was still waiting for a response from her 4-5 weeks later. I sent my programs to be printed and she finally called me back. With my brideâ€s maid in the car and two young ladies in the car with us she went on a 15 minute rant with very little spoken from me. Everyone in the car was wide eyed and in shock. She is caustic, curt, rude, disrespectful, and incompetent. Just some examples of what she said to me in regards to our son and his place in our wedding she told me “most people leave their kids in the hotelâ€, “What do you expect for 500 dollars†and “I have had family in town for a month and I just did not have the time to call youâ€. I did not want this woman anywhere near me or my family during our wedding and more importantly not in charge of pictures. I needed to talk to her husband. No call back from either one of them 20 days before our wedding. I had to have a dear friend of mine help me get in contact with Michael. After speaking with him 15 days prior to our wedding he terminated our agreement. He also stated he would not refund our deposit.

Sheryl/JJ called me back later and stated she would refund our deposit and sent us an e mail with a bogus confirmation number attached to it. We had spoken to Paypal and the number she gave are not refund numbers they use. The whole experience I had with the two of them was the most unprofessional, incompetent and rude experience I have ever had. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and hire anyone else on the island but Mauiweddingplanner.

OMG!!! I called them because they were highlighted on google as $495 for total wedding package.  We are on a budget.  Upon my first phone call, I had a few  questions to ask about the ceremony because of my religious views.  I was told I could not have these answered unless I put down a 50% deposit.  That really wierded me out. I do not believe that I should put down deposit for a few questions. Beware, of those asking for money before any work is done!

Oh wow. Oh WOW!! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you! What a horrible experience. I just can't believe there are people out there like this.

For anyone looking for a phenomenal and budget-friendly wedding planner- Cherise from The Perfect Wedding (here is the link: http://www.theperfectweddingmaui.com/) is out of this world. I hired her for my Maui DW 5 months ago and she was more on top of things than I can begin to explain. Not once did I wait more than 24 hours to hear back from her via email or phone (whichever I wanted at the time) and she was such a source of calm and positive energy throughout the entire 9 month planning process AND the day of. I didn't see anyone that offered what she did for the amount she did. Her website is a tad bit hokey- but it's no reflection of the job she did (it's a Maui thing) :)

I really can't sing her praises enough. Just for those girls out there that are looking for a planner and don't know who to trust.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
