where to start...?

Hello Everyone!

I'm recently engaged and excited to start using this awesome website for tips, advice, and encouragement while we plan our destination wedding. While excited, I'm not sure if I'm starting the process off on the right foot. I plan to meet with a travel agent who is familiar with destination weddings in my area, I'm just not sure where or even when. My fiance is a teacher which means the best time for a wedding is in the summer. Do you think it is too soon to plan a destination wedding for June or July 2011? I want our family and friends to have enough time to plan. Any thoughts?

Hi Courtney,

Welcome and congrats!!!. I started about 16 months out. I personally think that they're both pros and cons to starting early. I think once you pick your date and venue you should decide if your using a TA, then work on your website. If it's done in that order your save-the-dates will reflect your TA info and website info. There's actually alot of info on the planning time line. Hope this helps, good luck. This site is great.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. You'll find alot of useful info for the planning of your DW. The more time that you are able to give your guests and family to plan is always good. Some ladies start planning 2 years or a year out some start planning 4 months out. I don't think you're too early at all, so dive on in. Good luck and happy planning!

Thanks so much everyone. I was actually thinking I wasn't giving everyone else enough time to plan. My FI keeps saying 2012, thanks to this website I've planning even before we were engaged. I'm very excited and nervous all at the same time. Going with my future mother-in-law on Friday to a travel agent. Hopefully we will be able to pick out a date and place very soon! Love this website. Thanks again!

Congrats and welcome to the forum!  Def not too early to plan...you will be surprised how hard it is just to pick a resort.  Has taken me months and also you want to give your guests PLENTY of notice to make travel plans.  I am also getting married at Dreams La Romana like DCAIRNS!

Happy planning :)

Hola!

Welcome to the forum and above all, congratulations for your engagement!

Usually, brides plan their wedding at least one year ahead so planning your wedding for next July is perfectly fine. I think you should first start to choose the DW. It then all gets easier after picking the right location/resort. Have you thought about the Riviera maya?
One of the best things about Riviera Maya is the fact that you can get everything you dream, and it goes from the simplest things, up to the most elaborated...
I am certain that you will love it.
Your wedding is going to be full of magic and this website will help you a lot!

We wish you the best.

Happy planning.

Hello and a big congrats on your engagment.  I also started using this site early... which helped me a lot.  I have only been engaged now for a little less then a month and i still have not decided on a place or a date.  So you are already way ahead, you go girl.  A little less then a year to go, and that is def possible.

Have fun and happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
