Wedding and Honeymoon at different resorts?

Recommended Posts

Hello again everyone. (Sorry for this one. . it's going to be long!)

So, Sarah and I have reached a new decision and we're curious if anyone else has done the same (or similar).

We are set to be married May 26, 2008 at Paradisus Punta Cana. The more we talk to our guests the more we hear "We're planning on staying a bit longer and making it into a holiday as well" which is great. . all the power to them!

However, what's NOT so great about that is then while Sarah and I are trying to enjoy our honeymoon it's basically going to be "This place really is beautiful isn't it?. . .Hey . . .isn't that your mom over there waving at us?" and people phoning us, knocking on our door etc. etc. all in all. . .it will drive me insane! smile41.gif

So, we are thinking now that what we want to do is arrive at PPC on Friday, have our guests arrive on Saturday, use Sunday to get final details out of the way and have our own repsective parties (Bachelor/Bachlorette parties). . .(I'm taking the guys deep sea fishing which I think will be a riot!) then Monday we have the wedding. . in the evening after dinner/bit of a party Sarah and I high tail it to a different resort (we are going to go with the Honeymoon Club Suite at Excellence Punta Cana) where we will spend our week long honeymoon in peace and quiet and leave our families/friends to their own devices.

Does that sound like a good plan or is there some major flaw that we are overlooking?

Please give us some advice on what you think and if you have been to Excellence please let us know how it was!

Thank you everyone as usual you've all been great!

Myles and Sarah

miles - that is a great idea! we went to a DW in Cabo last summer at Fiesta Americana and the couple left that night and went to the One & Only Palmilla for a week. they did send a car 2 nights later for the wedding party and hosted us for drinks, which was an un-necessary but very classy touch!

I think that's perfect. WE arrive at PPC on a Wednesday, with guests trickling in Wed-Fri. Wedding is Saturday. We leave Monday for Paradisus Palma Real, where we will honeymoon for a week. We also have family & friends staying at PPC longer and don't want to run into them on our honeymoon.

We're staying at the same resort. The resort we're staying at is HUGE...and our travel agent is booking everyone on one side of the resort, while we're at the other! HOPEFULLY that will eliminate a lot of unwanted family members hogging up our honeymoon time! wink.gif

Now there's a fantastic idea! I'm seeing that as a nice way of saying "Thank you for comming all this way for us" and also it sort of makes it a little less dramatic that we're running away from everyone! smile120.gif

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm glad to see that this idea can work out!

Cheers,

M&S

We are only staying in cabo for a week total. We can't afford to stay longer and pay for the whole wedding festivities. Originally I wanted to make sure that all our guests come earlier in the week and are gone the day after the wedding so that we had time to ourselves.

Well, I am realizing this won't work. I can't control when people want to come. So I am not going to worry about it. We really won't have a "honeymoon" or maybe 1 or 2 days by ourselves?? I am okay with that. We are both more the type who like to be with other people and have fun so we figure if we want to go on another trip in a few months or the next year, then we will.

BUT...I think it's a great idea for you to go to a different hotel and have your "honeymoon" time and most decent people will totally understand this! :)

Awesome to know! Glad to hear that! We are doing the Royal Service ... and have our Homeymoon Registry listed with massages at the Spa. If someone doesn't get it for us, we'll just do it on our own. :-) We're both a sucker for a massage. mmmmm...

The resort sounds dreamy!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
