Marriage Certificate Question

Recommended Posts

I plan on getting married first in Toronto, Ontario before going to Jamaica (ROR) for the symbolic ceremony and reception.  I was told that I need to forward my marriage certificate to the resort 15 days prior to arrival. I read online that you would have to apply for the marriage certificate in Ontario but it doesn't say how long it takes for them to issue it....does anybody know?!  My dilemma is that my future mother in law will be coming to Toronto from out of town 2-3 weeks prior to all of us leaving for Jamaica and we want her to be here when we do our legal ceremony.  I'm afraid that we may not have time to wait on her to be here for the legal ceremony and to forward our marriage certificate to the resort.  Has anyone experienced providing their documents when they arrive to resort as oppose to forwarding it to them before arrival?  Are they very strict with this policy?

Thanks for the replies.

I guess now my other question goes to brides from the Toronto area.  I read online that right after the legal ceremony, they give you a record of solemnnization which has our names and date of marriage, etc but it's not the actual marriage certificate.  I would have to apply for the marriage certificate afterwards.  Is the record of solemnization sufficient or do I have bring the marriage certificate to the resort and how long does it take for me to obtain the marriage certificate?!  I'm hoping also that the resort will forget to ask me!

This is similar to the problem I am having. As all you out there from Ontario know - we do not have our father's names on our birth certificates. It took me so long to get an answer about what to do in that situation that I now have like a week to find and notary and courier my paperwork down there for my October 14th wedding. I thought destination weddings were supposed to be less stressful! We contemplated getting married here first to solve that issue but that brings up another stack of issues as well.....

What was the answer to whether your father's names to be on the birth certificate? Ours don't either, but we want to have our legal ceremony in Jamaica.

I had to order the long form birth certificates through Service Ontario for both myself and FI, cost was $35 per person, received them within a week although they say there is a 15 business day turn around.  This form is actually what your parents would have filled out in the hospital when you were born.  All we will need to do is photocopy the birth certificate and take that to get notorized.  I wouldn't notorize the original as the government will only issue a certain number of birth certificates to you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
