Advice on things to do, places to go while in Vegas

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

We're from New Zealand and coming to Vegas to get married in October 2010.  Our immediate family is coming with us, so there'll be 13 of us all up.

We're there for 5 days, and other than doing the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and obviously getting married, we don't have a lot planned.  Oh, and shopping of course!

Does anyone have any suggestions for things we really should do and/or see while we're there?  My fiance and I have both been to Vegas before (only a couple of days), but the rest of our family haven't.

Thanks for your help!  Looking forward to hearing from you!

Well Vegas is one of my favorite destinations with sooo much to do.  There are really cool excursions if you guys like the action and thrill from helicopter rides of the strip, parasailing on a nearby lake, rollercoaster rides, and most famous bunggy jumping off the stratosphere.

If that isn't your thing than there are shows galore from Cirque de Sole O, Blue man Group, Men down Under, etc.  There are trips that can be done visiting downtown vegas, gondala rides at the venetian.  There is just soo much to do and see.

Thanks for your feedback Jennifer.

Most of the adventure stuff we can do here at home, so I think we'll just be going for shows/ehibits/sights etc.  Are there any shows that people have seen that they thought were really great?

I think I want to drag my parents to cirque de sole, but really not sure of what else.  Has anyone seen Holly's Peep show?  I also wanted to see Chris angel while i was there, but have been told his show with circque de sole isn't that great.....

Hi Gina,

Any and all cirque du soleil shows in Vegas are amazing and will please any crowd!  Except for maybe Zumanity...that ones quite different!  My favorites were O, KA, & Mystere (The ones that have been around for years!).  I never saw Love, but heard it is amazing too.  Blue Man Group is pretty good, but for the $ I would stick to Cirque.  I haven't seen Holly's Peep Show, but I've heard mixed reviews.  I think its one of those shows people go to without realizing what its about!  haha.

The Chippendales and Thunder from Down Under would be a blast for a group of girls.  Its definitely cheesy, but its where I always took girls when they came in town to visit.  They always had a great time.  Its a more innocent version of a male strip show.

Another idea...Cher will be at Ceasars Palace during that time.  I used to work there and saw the show quite a few times!  Its definitely fun and entertaining if thats something your guests would like!

I miss living there more than anything, so if you have anymore questions, I'm very happy to help!

I live in Vegas so if you have any questions just let me know!

The Beatles 'Love' Cirque de soleil show is amazing and ask for group specials when you call the ticket line, there are many specials that many never ask for.

All of the Cirque shows are amazing though, so you can't go wrong with any of them!  Zumanity is very adult and sexual, at least according to americans ;) haha

I hear the new Elvis Cirque one is amazing also. It is at the New City Center hotel and that place is BEAUTIFUL so  don't forget to check it out!  They have an entire mall call Crystals mall that is pretty amazing!

Jersery Boys at teh Palazzo is also REALLY good and has great music, my parents see it every time they are here.

My FMIL LOVES Chris Angel  and they said the show  was not very good at all!

Peep Show is fun!  Lots of sexy ladies!

On your way to the Dam there is a beautiful lake called Lake Las Vegas!  Great little cafes on the lake, and some shopping there as well and in October it will be beautiful outside!

Try and make it off the strip some, there is lots of vegas out there!

Red Rock Canyon is West of the city by 30 minutes or so and the sunsets are amazing with all of the red colors!  I believe Pink Jeep does tours if  your into that!  heres the link http://www.pinkjeep.com/

Green Valley Ranch hotel and spa is amazing!  The resort sits on the edge a beautiful outdoor mall, so lots of shopping!

FireFly is a great Tapas resturant that is super YUMMY and make amazing Sangria and Moitios, would be a fun place for a dinner with your group!

Lots of stuff to do around here!  Happy planning!

Thank Steph - that's great feedback and lots of things for us to look at doing.  I didn't realise there were so many Cirque shows there!

I also hear it will be columbus day sales when we're there - where would you suggest we spend most of our time shopping?  Premium outlets?

If you are planning to see a Cirque show (I really recommend KA!  It's still my favorite one), go to the Cirque Du Soleil website and sign up for their newsletter.  You'll get a bunch of special offers for tickets in Vegas and will never have to pay full price for a ticket.

I personally think the Premium Outlets have better stores than the Las Vegas Outlet Centre (closer to the strip)... but the prices are cheaper at the Las Vegas Outlet Centre.

There are so many things to do in Vegas, just remember to take good walking shoes!

The great sales are FUN, Planet Hollywood has their circle of shops!  Cesears has a great mall inside and Fashion show mall right by the Mirage is just awesome!  All of the outlets are always great, the one north of the strip is better than the one south of the strip (not sure their names)

Las Vegas is a city that is like no other place on earth. Whether you fly in or drive ,  you will eventually descend into a valley and encounter what appears to be a mirage: a city in the heart of a vast desert, where almost two-million residents have gathered to watch the evolution of one of the worldâ€s true fantasy-vacation destinations. If you first see Las Vegas at night, you will be stunned.  You will experiece one of the most colorful spectacles on earth, thanks to miles of neon,  a billion watts of architectural lighting and, of course, the  Hoover Dam power plant.  Who knew there was that much neon anywhere?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
